Myst idea clones
I have to be honest, some of the design of this game looks ripped right from the Myst series. A box on a pole, with a glowing icon, MYST Island, anyone? Ok, I know it's not the same game at all, but they could have been a bit more original.

A box on a pole is pretty generic.

Saying that it looks 'ripped' from the Myst series is pretty rude, honestly.
First off, Myst was the most popular video game in the world for almost a full decade.

That's mind-blowing.

The odds that, on the Croteam staff, nobody has played Myst, Riven, Exile, Revelation, OR End of Ages -- is practically zero. They're video-game designers, and Croteam has been making games since 1993.
Myst came out the year they were founded -- pretty good bet they've played it.

That does not however, mean that they 'ripped' anything from it.

Did they take the same approach of having a story which the player must piece together themselves?
Yes.
Definitely not the first game since Myst to do that.

Did they make the experience more about the journey, the environment/ambiance and the process of slowly seeing a bigger picture than is originally apparent, instead of making players complete objectives for no particular reason, as many AAA games oft require?
Yes.
Also not the first game company to do that idea either.

What your comment amounts to is as ridiculous as someone saying "Cell phones are all ripoffs of the old rotary dial, because they still use PHONE NUMBERS."

On top of that, making a game -- one understandable by, and marketed to, the general public at large -- about philosophy and existentionalism is pretty damn original.

P.S.
If you want a spiritual sequel to Myst, look up Obduction -- Cyan Worlds is making another game.

Considering that I've lived with people who will find the tiniest hole in your argument and then make it bigger, I've learned it's often best to take them out beforehand.

And, (nothing personal), I really hate it when people ignorant of the inner-workings of the game industry call attention to something they perceive in a negative light, because they are most often incorrect. More specifically, I hate it because I'm learning about that industry, and while the picture may seem quite tranquil from the outside, it can be a real ♥♥♥♥♥ working in that field.

That said, seeing as how you took the comment in-stride (and didn't explode at me in response), kudos to you.

And you're welcome, I guess.
:)
you should just learn to relax and chill about those kind of people, and enjoy the games you enjoy. I wasn't saying it was something that would stop me from buying the game, just a noticable thing, that I personaly viewed as unoriginal, for a game that was also labeled a puzzle game.

Probably, it's a homage. Anyway, this game has a perfect Myst feeling, and that is not a bad thing.

A box on a pole with a glowing icon; lamps, anyone? Tres unoriginal!! :)

Kidding aside, I got a little bit of a Myst vibe from the demo along with a smidgeon of Portal. I don't see it as being "ripped" from either of those games, however, just that there are similarities. That can be said a lot of independently-created, original, high-quality work in any medium or field, though. You're influenced by your experiences and inspirations, and broad design choices about genres, styles, and themes tend to funnel you towards outcomes similar to other, existing work.
