Level B-5, Behind the Iron Curtain, can't get box from elevated platform without falling

I'm playing on a Macbook Pro, updated with the latest OS X. I can only get the second connector out of the back room, Every time I try and grab the top box off the pile below I fall back into the room (with the two pressure pads). I'm on my second playthrough. I had this problem briefly during my first playthrough but it resolved itself somehow. This time I've tried quitting the game and restarting. I've tried quitting and restarting Steam. I've tried restarting my computer. And I've tried resetting the puzzle. I still can't grab the top box.

Even getting the connector is hard because the ledge is a millimeter too high. But you do not need the second cube to solve the puzzle. When you are done there should be two cubes left in that room.

But I can't get the connector out either (from the ledge). I tried just taking one box in and just grabbing the connector from above.

With three boxes I can get the connector but I can't get a box out. With only two boxes I can't get the connector out.

Yeah, you have to sacrifice all three boxes. There used to be a way to grab the top box, but Croteam patched the game to eliminate this shortcut. You won't need any of those boxes to finish the puzzle. (which reminds me that I need to update my walkthrough to eliminate this shortcut).

...No? I solved the puzzle by moving two boxes to the pressure plate and stacking a connector. http://i.imgur.com/kTysCXE.jpg

Ah, I'll look at the puzzle again. BUT, how does this affect getting the connector out to grab the star at the top of the obelisk?

Oh wait, never mind. Looking over my notes I can see you can use the same scheme as before to solve the star puzzle. Never mind.

Ah, I guess it is still possible. Though it appears to be much more challenging to accomplish now. I remember it being really easy before, and that was how I successfully completed the puzzle. Though with my most recent playthrough, I found it to be much more difficult to accomplish, so I figured out the "intended" solution. So while it is possible, it isn't necessary to solve the puzzle and doesn't really make the solution any easier.

The way I do it is to put a box on each pressure pad and the connector on one of them. Climb the ladder and carefully reach over the edge for the connector. You have to shimmy a little right at the edge and grab the connector as you are sliding off and quickly backpedel.

For the star you need to get both a connector and a fan outside the puzzle area. You also need a cube to get out and to get to the Pink Floyd easter egg.

Okay, I got the Sigil and the outside star. I did have to use three boxes in the inner room of Behind the Iron Curtain to get the connector out. And then I reset the puzzle to get the fan for the star. I will try for the PInk Floyd Easter Egg tomorrow.
