What is it about this game and motion sickness?

I've never had even the slightest trace of motion sickness throughout 20+ years of gaming - until this game. This includes extended play sessions of games that should in theory be worse due to greater movement (Quake, TF2, Portal) narrow FOV (console ports such as Mass Effect) or disruptive visual effects (Hotline Miami).

Talos is a relatively slow paced and innocuous game, but even with bobble and blur disabled, with a 106 degree FOV (matching most Source engine games), this game makes me feel slightly nauseated. I would love to know, what it is about this game that makes motion sickness a problem despite the absence of triggers that are present in other games.

I remember experiencing "motion sickness" when I set the FOV higher than 105. My eyes couldn't seem to adjust to 110 or above, so I keep it at 105, and I use 1920 x 1080.

It can help to focus on objects a long distance away when moving, instead of looking at what is right around the avatar.

I would say it's due to a ♥♥♥♥ ton lot of little shadows "sparkling" everywhere, + head bobbing + vert fast paced game. I too get sick at the beginning, I had to boost my perofmrance to 50+ fps in order to not end up with headaches after each session.

I'm playing talos on PS4 and yesterday I threw up after playing less than 1 hour. I thought I might be sick, but today I'm having the same feeling of nausea after playing for 30 minutes. I thought it was just me, seems like lots of people are having the same problem.

Achievement unlocked? First time throwing up playing a game.

Disable view bob and increase fov. It should help.

Lower sensivity works too... on PC, at least.

Along with the FOV and sensitivity adjustments, turning the game sound down (music) seems to help as well. I get attacked from all sides on this game.

I just started playing it again, the last time I played it I was going through some stuff IRL and I thought the bad feelings were associated with that. Little did I know. D:

Haha! I just had a similar experience today, minus throwing up. I had to check the forums to see if it was just me. I'll try playing in Third-person view next time, as I've seen mentioned here has helped.

yep the depth of field is so unrealistic its like walking around in a house of mirrors. Exactly what i expected, An over glorified, New age pos vr game. Tho I was really surprised they dont make you play as ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ batman in this game lol, Now that i vented and got my refund i think im gunna go buy a real game.

For legacy reasons, FOV is calculated as horizontal FOV at 4:3 aspect.
