Does it get better?
I'm about halfway through the game and most of the puzzles somehow feel very repetitive.

I'm usually a fan of puzzle games. Even loving the niche indie puzzle games like English Country Tune, Baba is You or Snakebird. For a 3D puzzler I was expecting something like The Witness. That game had innovative and interesting puzzles around every corner and kept introducing cool new mechanics that baffled my mind. Talos Principle seems to only introduce new mechanics after quite some time.. and so far none of them are very interesting.

Story seems interesting, but I think I know where its leading and the philosophical aspect seems very 'light' so far. Nothing I havent read before.

So yeah. Does it get better? Or should I just skip this one?

The environments are very beautiful though. Soothing somehow. Just to say some positive things haha. I dont want to enrage fans.

From my limited experience, it gets more complicated, but not really "better". I made it through most of all 3 "upper levels" after the intro level, but never made it into the tower. On my second playthrough, starting over after about a year because I'd forgotten everything, I haven't been able to get into it as much.

There might be a couple game mechanics you haven't hit yet, but by and large all the puzzles are variations of what you've seen. Better is a relative term, as many people like finding solutions to the harder puzzles the game presents. However, if you aren't particularly enjoying figuring them out now, then it may not be worth it to you to trudge ahead.

I wasn't overly impressed when I played the first few hours back in 2019. "Yeah, yeah, lots of laser puzzles, I get it." Even though I adored The Witness, this one didn't click for me.

Something made me give it another whirl a couple weeks ago and now I LOVE basically everything about it. Some of the most satisfying puzzle gameplay and secrets I've ever come across, and difficulty is perfect for my caliber of brain power.

So, to me, yes, it got better. But I'd already well warmed to the experience before where you are. So maybe it's just not for you.

This shows how different our perspectives can be because I'm saying EXACTLY the same as you ABOUT The Witness! I found that to be very boring and repetitive, just tracing lines on a TV screen and I've parked it at a couple of hours play. Yet I've played nearly 400 hours on Talos and the workshop games. It just proves you can't please all of the people all of the time. ;0)

Thanks for the replies guys. I guess my puzzle taste just is a bit different. I might give it another chance at some point. For now I'll leave it in my backlog ;)

Yes the puzzles are nothing like those of the witness but Jonathan Blow is known for making good puzzle games, in the other end this game, was made by the team that made all Serious Sam games! Brain dead shoot them up's! That a team that add never done a deep puzzle game in their lives, was able to create such intriguing puzzle game, to me is mindblowing.
Also IMO, this game is not only about the puzzles, there's also a really cool and deep narrative to uncover, from the texts and conversations on the computers, the "God" narration and interaction, the QR Code information plastered through the map, the world graphical anomalies that show the game world is a simulation, even the construction of some of the levels has a small story to tell, imo this game is more deep than it seems.

unlike most puzzle games, the puzzling has a purpose, but it's really difficult not to spoil the experience by saying more.

however, if English Country Tune, Baba is You or Snakebird are the type of puzzles you're after (no story, but devilish mechanics), then check out stephen's sausage roll.

Test played Witness, didn't much liked it. Talos I had completed it back in the release day on a pirated crack. I owed it to devs to properly buy it now on sale with Gehenna DLC.

The game essentially a homage to many AI existentialism, You even can find a reference to Eve no Jikan ( My Time on Eve), a Japanese anime so many hidden Easter Eggs rarely if not none games now would bother. Really, a life-changing experience game.

If you feel overwhelmed or bored you can return later to sip it bit by bit:coff:
