SOLVED - Looking for a hint - Oubliette Star

I'm looking for a hint on reaching the Oubliette (C4) star. It's the last one I need to finish up the three hub zones before I start the different endings.

I've tried to bring a red beam into the puzzle area, but I can't get better than halfway across the shielded doorway that led to the red sigil. That's got the beam scraping corners all the way from across the central courtyard. The receiving connector would have to be about 6-8 feet further left to work. The only way I'll manage that with this beam is if I could smuggle two connectors into the central courtyard or one connector into the puzzle area to straighten it out. But I see no way to get a connector out of any of the other puzzles.

I've tried going over the wall... I can get to the top of one of the pillars supporting the iron fence (screenshot in my profile if that helps), but I can't seem to land the jump atop the next pillar to the left that would let me drop onto the star from above. This seems the likeliest scenario, but I've failed at the jump a LOT of times now, so I'm not sure if there's enough room to actually land.

I'm stumped, so I'd appreciate a bit of a hint in the right direction. Thanks!

This can't be the only way, is it? Cos you get locked in necessitating a reset to get out. That doesn't seem right. Not with 2 pressure plates on a recorder level.... there has to be a way to get red laser.
