RTX 3070 not detected? Set to low?
Just got an RTX 3070 this week and booted up Serious Sam 4 to give it a go. Well first I am met with an error message that tells me the GPU could not be detected and asked if I wanted to continue anyway. Then once in the game it set my GPU to low. I went ahead and set everything to ultra but it did not run as great as with my 2070 super. I don't recall what my exact setting were before this and I honestly don't know what all these graphics options mean so.....help?

Greets. Did you remember to uninstall your old GPU graphics drivers? If you don't, old settings might stay behind and cause problems. You also need to specifically select the appropriate drivers for the new GPU. Other thing you can do is a file verification on the game which should restore the original settings the game comes with as default then proceed to reconfigure the settings.

Yeah uninstalled old drivers re-installed new, verified files you name it. I even went in and manually deleted the old config file for SS4 and for some reason Geforce Experience isn't reporting what my new config actually is, its weird. I think there must be a setting that I am turning on or off but there are so many options and several that I don't know.

The safe way is to use the predefined ultra settings in the game. I found the biggest impact on performance was the super aliasing. Keep those settings low/off if you want high frames. (I got between 35-60 frames with both aliasing options maxed on a 3060). Use Vulkan render if you want better frames. (I just went with DX12 as there isn't that much difference frame wise for me). Might be that Geforce Experience is what is causing the trouble. I can't think of any reason SS4 wouldn't be detecting your GPU other than something interfering. You could try setting things in Nvidia/Windows control panel for the GPU. Also, ports you connect up your GPU to matter. (Got my one set up on display ports). Wish I could offer more help, but not sure where the problem could be other than above mentioned.

I think I have most stuff lined out now. After tweaking and tweaking I have everything set to max for the most part I just need to figure out the texture pop in. I really wish they had a more simplified settings format because I honestly have no clue what a lot of these do. I have seen a lot of 30 series owners mentioning issues with this game so I just don't know. I have mine hooked up Via display port as well, its the only way I can use 165hz refresh on my monitor. Thanks for the help!

I got a 3070 ti this week, similar problems to you.

Are you guys plugging your display port cable into your 3070 and not your motherboard?

Also make sure you are plugged into your PCIe x16 slot and not a ×4.

Yes I mentioned that above. My motherboard doesn't have a display port on it only HDMI.

Yeah. Same problem with 6600 AMD. Sounds like the game cannot identify new cards released. My "fix" was to setup details alone. Unfortunately best choice right now until developers do something for that.

I played it on a Pascal GPU and it ran great.

Bought an Ampere recently and fired it up, chose Vulkan, and it ran like garbage.

Eventually remembered I must have played on DX11 or 12 before with Pascal. Once back on DX12 with Ampere card, it's much better.

The reason behind this is, the Publisher of this game is lazy as hell.

All of your problems are the same thing. The game deciedes on an hard-coded base, what settings are used for any given GPU. Since this ♥♥♥♥ is hard-coded and not even touched since the initial release of the game. ANY New GPU since release of RTX3000 V1 (without this LHR bullcrap) aren't "allowed" by the game.

The Game can't messure the GPU because they will be not recognized. If you managed to buy a new GPU with LHR 3070 V2 or what ever they will call them. You will be always set to low.

This Line:
[0x2488] = { performance=3071, name="GeForce RTX 3070 V2" },

have to be edited by You to let the game Know there is a new GPU it doesn't know. There is a Guide here in Steam i don't quite manage to find.

/edit found it:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2613284991

(view local data) Serious Sam 4\Content\Shared\Config for PerfIndexGPU.lua and edit it with notepad. "this line" has to be copied into it. try to match the order.

i copied this into the Line between.
[0x2484]

[0x249C]

Since its the natural order.

Explanation for this line:
"I had done this a longer time ago, soooo i just, well... believe."

[0x2488] - is the ID of your GPU-ID given to the system, it changes dependend on your GPU, THIS one is for "RTX 3070 V2" 3080Ti, 3090Ti and any other scrapt GPU that will come in the future has its own ID. It must be Matching your installed GPU.

Should be findable in your Windows Device manager -> "your GPUs properties" -> details -> Hardware IDs Looking for &DEV_xxxx& the number showed there (the "xxxx"). Should be the ID you have to use.

performance= - is a predetermined "powerlevel" of your gpu. Since V2 is not patched into this game. The Valueis based on Oldscool 3070 added +1 for messure ^^ can be much higher for 3090ti or something. Just check it in the Lua File and try to match it at least base on known benchmarks.

name= - quite obvious i think. the name of the GPU, you could write down anything you want. Edit it like you would name the GPU, its easier to find this way,

fyi: You will recognize there is a GPU and CPU File. For Example. The new AMD CPU 5800X3D could have the same Problem.

I Hope it helps. As allways on something like this. Backup these files, before you edit something you not know what will happen afterwards. ^^

/edit - this is PURE lack of Publisher / Dev caring about a released game. Nothing else... sadly

Same problem after I update my gpu from 2060 super to 4070 super.
