I'm honestly fine either way, I had no problems with the modern mechanics, especially in Fusion version. Quite the opposite, they added to the game, like how reloading forced me to manage my ammo more and to switch weapons more often; sprinting was extremely useul for backtracking; it's only ADS I wasn't a fan of, but it's quite optional so whatever.
The sprinting I had no issues with, and actually found myself missing it when I go back to TFE and TSE.
Specially since, unlike so many other FPS games, Sam doesn't get winded after a few seconds. You can sprint for ever.
And, reloading, again... didn't bother me at all. I found it actually added to the combat, because you had to factor that into the fight. Something you had to plan for, keep an eye on.
If Sam4 has them, great. If it doesn't... great.
The other reaload weapon was the Devestator. I hate that weapon with a passion and hope to not see it return. It is way way too convenient (has faster fire rate than the launcher, has damage equal to the launcher for each shot, has the projectile speed and precision of the sniper, can pierce like the canon, and has plenty of ammo). Engagements get much more varied if you neglect to use this weapon, which is a bad sign.
I love the sprinting ability but there is nothing logically wrong with what he said. "killed the pacing" means a particular pace/flow was ruined for him, it does not necessarily mean the pace became slower.
In terms of pace it is forced. Sam is slower in SS3 compared to SS1 unless you sprint. This makes the pace completely different in the two games. In SS1 you have to plan your momentum long term in order to herd the hoard, in SS3 Sam is less effective at herding while gunning due to his slower speed - but instead he has the ability to reposition effectively with sprint which makes the herding mechanics very different.
I prefer the SS3 method and think it generally has superior core mechanics to SS1 despite the inferior campaign, but there's no denying SS1 has it's own flavor that can not be reproduced in SS3 by just ignoring sprint.
I feel exactly the same, I don't like devastator at all and I'm seriously hoping it won't be in SS4. It's just so badly designed weapon, has no drawbacks, and is like two times better than everything else. Not again pls.
Only for the double barrel and the sniper if i remember correctly. The sniper fired straight from the ammo pool and had a cycling animation, as for the double barrel it would be weird to not have one. Either way, there still is a good point. True reloading brought down SS3 along with many other issues. Sometimes going back to the basics is the best way to go.
revolvers had true reloading
