so much for a the hub for future games...
they cut it out mid-development, it was announced.
Split screen is a major staple of the series. Original games had it when monitors were bulky, 17 inches and 1024x768 resolutions, gamepads on PC were using gameport, mice used ps/2 and USB was barely a thing (most mobos had like 2 of them tops). Back then you couldn't simply hook up your PC to TV via HDMI and plug some controllers from any consoles on market plug-n-play. And yet, SS1 had 4 player split screen. It was massive struggle for feature that no one even thought was possible at the time. They implemented it because they wanted it.
2 and HD versions cut splitscreen and it was a massive complaint, so they added split screen in BFE, and added split screen retroactively back to HD versions in Fusion.
And now in 2020 they can't do it anymore? The game was rushed, simple as that. They cut corners like everywhere in order to bring it to release. Tbh should had delayed it for another half a year. But I guess the had to release it no matter what for that Stadia deal.
because in 2020 we play over the internet. Even consoles now almost dropped split screen.
Online co-op is only really social if you are on two computers in the same room or if you have a friend online that is available to play at the same time you want to play.
Other than that you just play against randoms are that's not great and the usually all do their own thing.
plus with split screen you don't get booted from the game like you do in many games with online only co-op due to lag, bugs and connection issues.
Also bringing in games to the discussion that don't have or have never had split screen is just dumb.
There's nothing wrong with refunding a game because it's not feature complete.
This game is a rushed buggy stuttery incomplete mess.
I have no bugs.
with the perfomrance of modern pc's, the widespread availability of big screens, the ease of plugging a tv into a pc. the ease of multimonitor splitscreen these days. there is no excuse for not inculding splitscreen on pc. this game is/ was famous for it. heck the first ones had it and they are very very very old games now, running on potato pc's
splitscreen while setting up in nvidia control panel a single virtual monitor from two physical monitors, split the orientation and you have a full high resolution screen each. with the performance of modern pc's the bad graphics of serious sam. easy. super easy. if consoles can do splitscreen so can a freaking pc. or if you just want some casual fun, use a big tv. a big 4k tv will give each player plenty of screen space and resolution. and screen cheating can be fun. or agree not to do it and then dont. up to you. lan is great. if you have friends happy to lug their big watercooled computer over to your house every damn time you want some casual multiplayer in person. but that is not very convenient.
at least halo infinite will have splitscreen. and we still have some good classics with it, and emualtors to run old console games with splitscreen upped to 4k60 etc.and they might.. might.. be adding it into halo mcc after all the complaints. why the f they thought they could remove splitscreen from halo i will never know. its a damn staple of the series. same as with serious sam. croteam have lost all my respect and i do not plan to every buy any of their products again. not until they go back to their roots and return splitscreen to its rightful place.
