Big farms = bad
I have noticed, that bigger farms produce less food pr. tile, than smaller farms.
With all tech rescarched and on normal.
Small farm (1 tile) = 2.5 food each day
Medium farm (2 tiles) = 3.75 food each day
Large farm (4 tiles) = 5 food each day

I hope the developer is going to change this soon, because right now, if you need food, it's better to demolish you large/huge farm and build 4 small instead (given that you have the time, manpower and materials for it)

I am thinking something like this (on normal with all rescarched)
Small farm = 2
Medium = 5
large = 12

The medium giving more than 2 small, and the large giving more than 2 medium.
Allso, when you have a govement and your food storage is either full or close to empty, you get the "ration" policy option. Instead of how it is now, completely random (I have had both close to empty and completely full food storage while I played a map, while I had a govement, after day 120, I still haven't got the "ration" policy)

Big farms = good!

Sure, they produce less food, but, they are good for defense - they allow a single defender to guard a lot more border tiles. They spread the bonus from police stations/banks out farther. They take only a single bunkers/towers/turrets upgrade to add defense to a bunch of tiles. They let you reclaim 2-4 city tiles in a single fight.

That being said, I did feel the same as you initially, and as soon as a big or huge farm (or big residence) is not on the border of my territory, I replace it with small buildings (which, if you chose the the Construction Worker perk, actually *gives* you materials in the end, since replacing a big one implicitly tears down the remaining parts, and it costs less to build a new thing than what you get from tearing down).

It would probably be less confusing for the base farms production to simply proportional to the number of tiles involved, neither providing a bonus nor negative. If you could actually go out of your way to build a huge farm (e.g. by building 4 little farms next to each other), then I would expect to get a bonus for doing so.

Also, don't forget the best thing about huge farms - they break up the monotony and make the city look pretty!

Personally, I would like equal returns as I do love them for defence, and I would love in suburbs follow to equal return on value too, they also have poor value.

That sounds good too

Yup, I think that would be a great solution too. :)

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that having a police station already serves a better role for defending your tiles?

Police stations give a defense bonus to adjacent tiles. With a big or huge farm, that bonus applies to more tiles. If your border has a police station between two big/huge farms, for example, you get five tiles with that bonus, as opposed to three with regular sized buildings.

Even without a nearby police station/bank, a huge farm lets you defend more space with less soldiers. Huge parks and power stations are nice for the same reason.

And what about malls? Don't they do a better job as well?
Malvastor Aug 23, 2015 @ 2:45pm
Yeah, but malls don't do anything else useful. If I have a mall of any size I'm almost always going to convert it into something else, usually a farm of the same size.

Thats assuming you have a big farm in a front line defense area. If not, and you have a food issue, then breaking the large farm down and rebuilding 4 in its place is more viable option then keeping a big farm around.

Goes both ways, but honestly that really doesnt matter either way. This more about the farms output then its defense, which even if output was change the defense shoudd stay the same.

But yes i agree OP. The proportions from small to big farms are off. Best to just break them down use the resources from that, and build new ones to boost production.

I love big farms. Its not that hard to get on the right side of food. So whats the big deal what they give?

They look great and as ha already been said, they are a great defencive thing.

I wish there were more double and huge buildings on the map.

Eh, my problem with big farms is that an event always pops up where the living dead come up from under the ground. I have no idea why these events happen at all. They don't seem safe to me lol

That has only happened around four or so times in the entire time I've been playing this game,and it doesn't really affect anything that much anyways (Maybe happiness)

Well, they produce less food, cause unhappiness, and I can find better buildings than big farms for security.

True,but you CAN'T ignore the fact of when a guarding person is guarding the farm,EIGHT tiles around it are guarded,and it could possibly be TWELVE,but only if the corner tiles count too (I don't think they do)

EDIT: AAAAAND it gives you four building things reclaimed (Also a not sure)

By the time I need good security, I already have lvl10 soldiers marauding around the map. If I really needed that much I'd be better off using bombs to clear hordes tbh. And with the amount of people I recruit I NEED that extra food and less of that unhappiness.
