Highway exits?
How do you do it?
Create your own that never looks perfect, or subscribe to sh*tloads of assets and scroll through them for half an hour just to realize nothing really fits?

Create enough of your own until they start looking perfect.

For me, part of the game's appeal is trying until something looks decent enough and works as intended. I don't use mods or assets from the workshop and have made very functional, neat transitions from main highways to other roads. Have a look at this for inspiration:

Just learn to create your own, you really don't need engineering degree to understand how to draw some simple interchanges - these structure are already designed for you by countless real engineers, so just copy them. Don't try to reinvent the wheel 😄

The part that you need to train yourself is understood how to achieve the shape, the smoothness, etc. If you aim for hyper-realism then yes you also need to understood various mods especially NetworkAnarchy, MoveIt, IMT & NodeController. Check this youtube playlist for many drawing tutorials : https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLvUltnTgrMOMktcnKm-b3sBs-bcfdpztK

the last thing I want to say is, understood the SCALE! You can measure things on GoogleMap/Earth, 1U(grid) in game is 8 meter. Do the conversion or use PrecisionEngineering mod to show up in meter directly. You never going to achieve the proper looks without drawing things at proper size.

I've created most of the commonly used interchanges as assets, using wikipedia for inspiration (I used the German version of the wiki because that page has a lot more templates/pictures to go on: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autobahnkreuz ).

I've found that there are two main categories of interchanges. 'System interchanges' (which are highway <=> highway connections, and 'Service Interchanges' which are connections between a highway and a regular road network (like you have in your city). Besides those two you've got intersections and roundabouts to use within the city limits.

To get a grip on traffic in this game it's not so much the type of interchange you use, but more the amount of connections to the highway and their locations that matter.

As for creating your own interchanges or highway connections, I suggest you start simple. A Diamond Interchange is the most common. It consists of a city road going over or under a highway, that is connected with four ramps (two on each side of the highway). After that you can try parclo's, which have one or more ramps that are curved like a circle.

Here's a good video on how to get started with interchanges by Yumbl: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_gZwJEm7pk&t=1043s&ab_channel=YUMBL

Over the years, I expanded from mostly diamond interchanges to making my own trumpet, albeit a smallish one, that works. The key to not having to scroll through a large number of them is to either make your own as you go, or, download a few (maybe 5 or 6) that you would use quite often and use them to make your city how you want.

A mix of both.

Use Move It mod to improve curves, gradients, etc. of the freeway exits.

do you use mods much? i found some tool like network arnarchy, and network multitool are great help to make smooth exit. one of the difficult to make is a smooth circle with highway. and both tool give precision to achive it.
I am lazy and usually use workshop assets though I often modify them in-game to meet my needs. It depends - am I using a "traffic splitting funnel" for my Industries Areas, Cargo Station/Port Hubs, or high density commercial blob - or am I using an elevated highway to roundabout with slip lanes to connect a highway to residential on both sides?

I also enjoy using Texas U-Turn style slip lanes to enter-exit a highway that runs through my city. It's better to have highways go around your city than through it, but at the beginning of a game, I don't usually have that option unless I edited the map to create a highway ring around the 9 tiles (and I often do).

I build them myself, with the help of node controller, move it and intersection marking tool.

I vote for "shtload of assets".
Drawing anything, thats not straight, not to mention parallel, is a pain. And requires more mods to use.

there really no much more mods than what we already mentioned in road creation.
---
1- MoveIt : fine tuning
2- Network Anarchy : remove vanilla limitation / force road type, etc
3- NodeController : corner smoothing, offset, etc
4- Network Multitool : mainly for add/remove node & parallel construction
5- IMT : for beautification.
---
That's ALL. JUST FIVE.
Throw in PRT if you want a more advance form of parallel road creation but Multitool have a basic one that is suffice for most cases.

Yeaah.... No, im too picky when I do it myself and I end up raging over the smallest offset in anything, I know its "easy" to make it perfect once all the tools are mastered but i am also too lazy haha

Assets it is!

See, its exatly 4 MORE, that I WANT to use (I already use move it and parallel road tool). Not to mention the time it requires to master it. Its just insanely tedious to me...
I collected 8-10 junctions and Im perfectly happy with them.
