Possible through third party apps - Or you know. Just get a three button mouse like anyone else who actually wants to play a game on a Mac. (Or in general - I don't understand people who insist on using classical Mac mice for OSX)
I play many games on my mac and I use a trackpad and I've never had a problem. If a game works on a mac, it should be designed to work with what the mac uses for inputs. It shouldn't require you to buy another device to interact with the game.
But I get your point - I have a feeling they (CO) haven't tested it with regular Mac mice too much aside from making sure the game runs on the system itself.
Rotate, yes. But you don't have free 360" panning.
I can do a two finger tap op the trackpad but that only rotates 90 degrees
ctrl click does nothing
almost 5 years later, I have the same question :-)
The link below is the mouse I use. I got it for this game and found it works great. It's so easy to just plug in the usb receiver and go. No setup required. Note: It's a tiny mouse, but works great for me. If you're using the Apple mouse for the convience of the touch features like the track pad, you'll obviously need to use this as a separate mouse.

Right click rotates an object in 45º increments
Right hold and drag (left or right) rotates smoothly (you may have to release and reposition the object)
Left click plops/locks the object in position.
Works the same with MoveIt!
