MSI Apache Pro GE60, 1 GPU only, 860M on, poor performance.
Greetings.

My computer has i7-4710Q 2.5 GHz with turbo boost and 860m with 2gigs of videoram. It's more than enough for reccomendet performance, however, i can only play on low texture details (with shadows off, as well as with everything else on low). As soon, as i do update texture details higher - perforamnce drops ridiculously. Any suggestions, how i can improve this or it is just unoptimized?

It's not unoptimized. It just uses the integrated graphics by default. You'll probably have to force it to use your more powerful video card from the control panel.

laptop it seems... the game has a tendency to start off on the cpu for graphics instead of the graphics card

Switch to dedicated GPU.

I don't have an integrated GPU, i said in topic name as well as i read the pinned topic...
In the NVIDIA Control Panel (right click on your desktop) you can select individual programs to run off a certain GPU. Manually set it to use the high performance GPU for whichever game you need. You're most likely running off the integrated GPU built into your processor. I have this problem on my laptop from time to time. Also yes you do, those CPU's have GPU's built in. They run by default for normal Windows stuff since they're more power efficient but when a game launches your computer SHOULD switch to the NVIDIA one. Sometimes it doesn't realize it needs to though, which what I said above, will fix.

MSI gaming laptops have intergrated graphics and dedicated gpu. Normally Nvidia Maximus will switch between said graphics based on what you are doing.(I believe your model also has the changing color light of the power button) so when it is using the dedicated graphics card, your power button should be red, if not it is white(or off).

Sometimes however, with new games this is not the case. In that case, you have to set it manually.

Have not ever looked at this led. normally, it's blue and haven't ever seen the color to change. Altrough, i tested around, and pretty much all the games i have ran on 860m, however, will do some tricks tomorrow, will see, if light changes. Thank you for the information.

If it doesnt change, it might just be that your laptop does not have the changing led in the power button, I know for a fact the GT series of the MSI gaming laptops do(i own one)

i have the GE60 one, so probably not.

I have this exact same issue, and I have the same CPU/ GPU as you. I haven't been able to fix this either, have you had any luck?

Yes. On windows 8.1 (i suppose on 7 as well) on the bottom right (or where you have the time and date you click on arrow, to show all apps in the tray. Right there there is an app GeForce Experience. Right click on it and go to "Open Nvidia Control Panel". In opened window go to "Manage 3D settings". There are 2 tabs. 1 is Global Settings, and other Program Settings. You either go to global and choose High Performance Nvidia Processor for overall better usage, but you loose your battery work time (although it is not huge), or you go to Program Settings and choose Cities skylines and manually choose High Performance Nvidia Processor for this parcticular programm.
