"Your system has run out of application memory"
I'm not sure if this is a mac or game problem but ever since I upgraded to the latest os x, no matter how many mods I deactivate, no load or new game goes past the loading screen when the message "your system has run out of application memory" shows up and asks me to force quit applications. Meanwhile, the only applications that are running are Steam and CS. CS is using a lot of memory (60+GB). I'm not sure if that's a lot. I only havw 16gb ram but, although it could get slow at times, I never had any problems loading the game.
Is anyone else also having trouble with this?

It's very hazardous upgrading MacOS. It usually always has issues from all of the changes that come with MacOS. You may want to scour the internet for anyone else with issues and any fixes. I got rid of my Mac a few years ago and haven't replaced it, so I can't test anymore.

Also, maybe just test with a new vanilla map by temporarily launching the game with -noWorkshop -disableMods flags.

You have significantly more workshop than your system supports and you may need to mess with Virtual memory settings.

Let's start by seeing if the unmodded game works. Add the launch options -noWorkshop and -disableMods to Steam and start a new game. Does that work?

How To Set Launch Options
  • Right-click on the game title under the Library in Steam and select Properties.
  • Under the General tab click the Set launch options... button.
  • Enter the launch options you wish to apply (be sure to separate each code with a space) and click OK. Should look like this:
    -noWorkshop -disableMods
  • Close the game's Properties window and launch the game.
I have had this problem myself running Cities: Skyllines on MacOS. Every time it has cleared up when I turn off or clear out my workshop items. There is something I have subscribed to that is eating up memory, or the total number of items has used too much memory.

As far as the MacOS pagefile, you don't need to do anything to activate it or change it. MacOS automatically manages it for you. See the following for more details:

One thing to check is your MacOS boot disk. If it is "full" then there is no room for MacOS to allocate page file space which can lead to this error. If this is the case free up some space by getting rid of some files.

If you have the time and effort, you could convert that to a MacOS page file guide. I know it would be appreciated much by the community.

If you do that you could edit our guide so we have the mac included as well :)
Not sure how to edit your guide directly, so I posted it as a comment for the guide.

I saw that, thank you.

I could add you as our mac contributor if you like
