Can i get glass without diving into the ore industry?
I need it for my lemonade factory. Am curious if i can get it from recycling centres. i know it says it can't be imported sadly.

I dunno about in game, but in real life glass isn't allowed with my local recycle pickup anymore

Wow! That's a first for me. Glass not pick up as recycle?

@Ardith Prime, your question is a Industries DLC one. I believe.

Yes, i think so. Since that added the specialized industries.

I don't have the DLC but research how to make glass. I have heard this question before so someone will answer this.
I would guess oil and ore to be needed, I guess.

You can't import it, but you can import ore and have a small ore industry that just turns the imported ore into glass.

Make sure you don't make a particularly-big ore industry, because the import cost is high enough that it's not worth doing a ton of refining. Just make enough to drive your factories. (And consider putting a storage building on balanced for raw ore in the area so the glass plants won't have to go all the way to the edge of the map to get imports when they're running low.)

I did this with oil in one of my cities to be able to drive more factories, and it worked great.

(I suspect recycling centres only make the base game resources, because they're from Green Cities, which needs to work even if you don't have Industries.)

EDIT (after the following post): I'm assuming you don't have ore available somewhere you're willing to build, not that you're unwilling to make an ore area.

The output of those recycling centers is not that volume to serve your industry , but all raw materials of DLC and Vanilla industries are the same and can be shared . The split is at intermediate level . So you could use a vanilla ( yellow zoning ) ore extractor on the source to avoid raw material imports too .

Yep its been like this for about a year now that they won't accept it on curbside pickup, or take it to some other kinda center myself, I won't bother making the trip so I just put it in regular garbage now

I was trying to avoid building mines since they're a limited resource, and non renewable, but if i can import sand and refine it, that also works,

I was hoping the recycling centres would be as useful as they were in Sim City, but alas.

A mod could change it, but right now it's just the three non-farming raw materials:
TransferManager.TransferOffer offer = new TransferManager.TransferOffer(); offer.Priority = customBuffer2 * 8 / num6; offer.Building = buildingID; offer.Position = buildingData.m_position; offer.Amount = Mathf.Min(customBuffer2 / num6, num7 - count3); offer.Active = true; switch (Singleton<SimulationManager>.instance.m_randomizer.Int32(3U)) { case 0: Singleton<TransferManager>.instance.AddOutgoingOffer(TransferManager.TransferReason.Coal, offer); break; case 1: Singleton<TransferManager>.instance.AddOutgoingOffer(TransferManager.TransferReason.Lumber, offer); break; case 2: Singleton<TransferManager>.instance.AddOutgoingOffer(TransferManager.TransferReason.Petrol, offer); break; }

That would be completely correct. The recycling centers produce the generic refined products called "Zoned Industry - X Products" which are used by generic industry. The Industries factories are not able to use it.

That's a shame. Like i said, i know in Sim City, one of its few redeeming qualities was recycling plants could produce class, Iron and aluminium. Oh well. I'll just import sand to make glass then.

The same happens with the recycling centers in this game. It's just that the amount returned won't be enough to supply your industry.

Can't you just import it from the outside?

Glass? No. Ore? Yes. It pays to have your own ore mine though where you can export it instead of importing it.
