Do I need a new PC
Hi all. I currently run a Lenovo Yoga, i7 12700F, 16GB RAM, not sure on the graphics card. If I upgrade to a gaming PC with 64GB of RAM a GForce RTX 3060 8GB how much better will the game run, have a lot of lag issues, is it worth the cost, about $2.5k?

No, your rig is way more than adequate to run this game at its full potential. this game uses DX11 and still has poor multi-threading, so you will lag.

There are some mods that can improve performance, but others can take it away. so you need to be very selective in subscribing mods.

I wouldn't recommend an upgrade unless you need it for other games.

Maybe post a saved game and we can test it out on our rigs. Maybe it is just a mod issue? Some mods are partially of fully incompatible with other mods. Not to mention mod conflicts for two mods that are similar.

At this point you're better off waiting until CS2's specs are announced and planning a PC build around that.

If you also intend on playing CS2, then I do recommend carrying out the upgrade. Do expect the next game to be more graphically demanding, so depending on your current GPU, that upgrade may be in very good order.

If you do not intend on playing CS, a RAM upgrade would still benefit you, by allowing you to load up more assets more quickly.

And what is your current GPU anyway? Where does the lag occur? Only on large cities with the simulation running? Or is it frequent, even with the game on pause?

thanks everyone for the replies. I do have a lot of crashes with under 150k people especially since the latest DLC came out which I haven't purchased for the financial district. I do run a lot of cheats are this is my relaxation have a very stressful job and this is my creative space, so not interested in the standard game play I do that in the real world LOL

So I took the plunge and got
Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X Processor
Processor Cooling: Allied Ice Cube 120mm Liquid CPU Cooler
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 8GB Graphics Card
Motherboard: AMD B550 Motherboard
Memory: 64GB [3200MHz] DDR4 RAM
see how it goes, don't have it yet ordered online, hopefully next week

Looks like a nice rig, but don't expect any real performance increase. This is a DX11 title and the AI is heavy on the game. I doubt you'll see any difference over what your laptop has. other than the extra memory will allow you to play modded a little easier.

I'd get a little better GPU if you can. 3060 12GB I have is OK, but my 6800XT 16GB made a big difference on larger cities, over my old 8GB Vega 64. That extra vRAM of the 6800 XT lets the simulation and tons of asset run smooth. the 3060 with 12GB does well too. Better than the vega anyway.

I am no expert on this, but gaming on laptops is bad. Getting a proper gaming PC will be like night and day difference. The reason being, laptops do not have proper cooling, instead have "fail safes" to keep things from overheating. Therefor, it throttles the cpu, ram, gpu down to avoid heat damage.

So definitely get a gaming PC. And Good Luck!

I run an 16 Gb I7 myself. I own only three of the DLC's, about 50 mods and around 170 assets. It handles that arrangement just fine. Doesn't really do well with 81 tile maps but that may be due to having other apps running in the background and I don't really see much point or benefit in playing an 81 tile map to start with.

I have a I9 with 32Gb and the same DLC, mod, asset list and the I9 is a LOT faster and easily handles everything I've thrown at it. Both systems run a 3x pagefile

That said....

Barring any unexpected catastrophe my next upgrade will have at least 128Gb ram and 4Tb ssd. I do not believe it is possible to have too much memory.

That said....

I would NEVER do a system upgrade solely to play any game. Thing is I am constantly playing editing or moving video around and that sucks down a lot of ram.

16GB is minimun in 2023. (last 2 years)
There are only few games need more ram than 16GB, cause their mods.
Like Minecraft, Cities or Skyrim.

3060 isn´t really "good" there are cheaper cards with the same result if you oc them.

I can run games on my both computers with the same setting, same fps, because the worse one is oc.
A card for under 300 euro with the same result with a 1000 euro card.

But a 3xxx card doesn´t make sense today if you haven´t one.
Go for 4 or wait for the 5 gen

But before you buy a new computer and waste money, oc your specs.

My 2nd computer has a i5 which can run newest games on mid-high and 90 fps.
This chip costs only 50 euro, it can handle games like with my i7, which costs 350 euro.

I just go in the BIOS of my gaming laptops and just disable turbo mode and the games run just fine, most of the time.

Other game I use throttlestopper and set my cpu a little lower or set TDP lower. But disabling turbo works well.

You probably would benefit from an upgrade... Despite what some people are telling you, nowadays you have what basically amounts to the recommended specs. AND THAT ONLY gets you to launching the game in a static static with no traffic or road networks.

I recently created a grid for a pretty decent sized city when I loaded my map, and that alone added over 1gb or ram usage,,, before pushing the play button and spawning traffic.

The minimum specs are a bit of a joke and even the recommended specs are just for the base game without any mods. And before you start playing the game.

But like someone else said, doing an upgrade just to play one single game is something you should really think about. If you have the money, shop around carefully and review the GPU'S CPU'S you can afford first. Spend it well.

It would be cheaper to upgrade your ram in the long run.
