Elevated Metro, Elevated-to-Subway Transition, and Custom Metro Trains Proposals
The metro system and the train system are two very convenient ways of public transportation in Cities: Skylines. Those systems have a lot of benefits, like reducing traffic congestion and reducing the amount of passengers that take buses to their work places. However, both transit systems have some drawbacks. While metro stations cost less to build than train stations, the metro system could only be built underground, and the train system can be built with elevated and underground sections, but custom-made elevated/underground train stations require mods, and those stations are not guaranteed to work, even with the mods enabled. In addition, custom train vehicles are supported, but only default metro vehicles can work in the metro.

Because of this, I am proposing that Colossal Order and Paradox Interactive must upgrade the metro system to allow elevated track and elevated stations. Elevated metro track would cost less to build than underground track, and the elevated metro stations would cost the same as the underground stations. The elevated metro guideway would have to be connected to the metro tunnels by an important piece known as an elevated metro to subway transition. Two features that would make the elevated metro track distinct from the elevated train track are that the elevated metro guideway should contain concrete textures similar to the tram system and that the elevated guideway contains no overhead wires. A redesign of the vanilla metro units and a redesign of the underground metro station are also necessary, as the elevated metro station would contain platforms long enough for 2/3 of a 6-car default passenger train vehicle (4 cars). In addition, Steam Workshop support should be added for custom metro rail trains, as well as customized elevated metro stations and elevated/underground metro transfer stations.

Not an original suggestion and it is a nice idea, but your only argument for it is that it would enable building metro lines at a lower cost than regular underground lines. That for me is a redundant argument. When I have millions to play with, I am not concerned in the slightest over costs for implementing a metro system.
I am concerned about needless overground masstransit that occupies building space. The whole advantage of the metro is that it is underground, allows more building area and is easier to route tunnels.
Now, if you had argued for using it to simulate a light railway, such as the L Train elevated light rail in Chicago or the London light rail, then you might be on to something. However, in terms of cost, it's a fail.

I think custom metro trains should be introduced, since I can't stand the default vanilla metro vehicles. Colossal Order and Paradox Interactive should allow custom metro trains to be created available on the Steam Workshop as metro vehicles.

I like the idea of having trains as a transit system, but I have to discuss that building elevated metro track is slightly more expensive than building rail tracks but slightly less expensive than building underground metro tracks. In SimCity 4, elevated rail transit occupies building space, like building elevated trains occupies building space in Cities: Skylines.

People have been saying this since March last year when the game was released. The current Metro is THE worst and frankly, most lazy part of the game development wise. It's basically a fake system with no visual elements other than people appearing at 'stations' and a graphic in the underground view.

Is there even ANY Metro/Underground/Subway system in the world that has NO above ground areas? Not even the depot? I very much doubt it and for me this is the single most disappointing aspect of the game.
After over a year of release and other aspects of transport like buslanes and trams being added, i'm surprised this hasnt been addressed. Especially when you consider the same people made Cities in Motion 2 which has just the Subway system that we want.

Fine, that's a better way to put it. Except for one thing...
**** Simcity. I couldn't give a flying **** what EA or Maxis did. It can rest in peace and it has **** all to do with this game. I am so ******* tired of seeing that crappy old game referred to in relation to this one. This game is not what Simcity was supposed to be and nor do I want to see it emulate that crap.
Rant over, have a nice day ;)

There are about four metro systems that lie entirely underground and have underground depots.

Remember, in order to build a metro system, a depot is required. Colossal Order should redesign the metro system so that elevated stations and at-grade stations could be built. In addition, an elevated track would have concrete pillars, and custom metro trains should be supported. There would be no overhead wire present unlike the train system, and the metro stations would cost lower than the train stations.

Either that, or, the metro system and the train system could be merged together and elevated/underground rail stations without the extra train station tracks mod would be supported. In those cases, small-scale train stations (like at-grade/elevated/underground metro stations) would cost 1/3 of the cost of a regular train station

I think we're in agreement then that a 100% underground metro system is hardly the norm or even common then. I just dont get it, they did it perfectly in CIM2, you could have subway, street level or elivated tracks and stations all in any order you wanted in CIM, you could even tie in tram tracks to the surface metro tracs as well to make a nice little light rail system too.

It amazes me that the same people that did that several years ago did this very last minute and basic feature we have in CS.

Colossal Order should add support for underground metro vehicles like they have for train vehicles. I don't like the default metro vehicles.

They should have a trip in some major cities in the world like Bangkok. Some metro systems are majority elevated. And if it were existed, Metro Overhaul Mod will be abandoned from my playing.

Also the metro should be able to have cross platform and the platform should be able to choose the depth even single platform. It is common that the metro station have deep platform in reality.
