I am concerned about needless overground masstransit that occupies building space. The whole advantage of the metro is that it is underground, allows more building area and is easier to route tunnels.
Now, if you had argued for using it to simulate a light railway, such as the L Train elevated light rail in Chicago or the London light rail, then you might be on to something. However, in terms of cost, it's a fail.
I like the idea of having trains as a transit system, but I have to discuss that building elevated metro track is slightly more expensive than building rail tracks but slightly less expensive than building underground metro tracks. In SimCity 4, elevated rail transit occupies building space, like building elevated trains occupies building space in Cities: Skylines.
Is there even ANY Metro/Underground/Subway system in the world that has NO above ground areas? Not even the depot? I very much doubt it and for me this is the single most disappointing aspect of the game.
After over a year of release and other aspects of transport like buslanes and trams being added, i'm surprised this hasnt been addressed. Especially when you consider the same people made Cities in Motion 2 which has just the Subway system that we want.
**** Simcity. I couldn't give a flying **** what EA or Maxis did. It can rest in peace and it has **** all to do with this game. I am so ******* tired of seeing that crappy old game referred to in relation to this one. This game is not what Simcity was supposed to be and nor do I want to see it emulate that crap.
Rant over, have a nice day ;)
There are about four metro systems that lie entirely underground and have underground depots.
Remember, in order to build a metro system, a depot is required. Colossal Order should redesign the metro system so that elevated stations and at-grade stations could be built. In addition, an elevated track would have concrete pillars, and custom metro trains should be supported. There would be no overhead wire present unlike the train system, and the metro stations would cost lower than the train stations.
Either that, or, the metro system and the train system could be merged together and elevated/underground rail stations without the extra train station tracks mod would be supported. In those cases, small-scale train stations (like at-grade/elevated/underground metro stations) would cost 1/3 of the cost of a regular train station
It amazes me that the same people that did that several years ago did this very last minute and basic feature we have in CS.
Colossal Order should add support for underground metro vehicles like they have for train vehicles. I don't like the default metro vehicles.
