Busses Ignoring Routes
Hi everyone. Bought this game a while ago but just now really starting to have time to get into it. I have a city that got big enough to build a bus station, so I did. I then laid out a bus line whose 1st stop was near the station, went around a neighborhood, then completed the line at the 1st bus stop, making a complete circut. My bus station then dispatches 5 busses. They ignore my route, drive out the station,. around the block, stop in front of the station for a minute, then drive back into the station. What did I do wrong? Is it because the line only runs in 1 direction? How do you make the same line run in 2 directions? Do you just make it make a u-turn near the end of the route and instead drive all the way back around to the location of the 1st stop?

Thanks. Very confused.

Not sure this will help in regard to the bus not following the route, but you can (maybe should) put bus stops on the other side of the road - Yep, took me a while to notice that you can put bus stops on a specific side of the road !! So, putting a bus stop on the otherside of the road at the last stop on the route you will see the bus loop back on itself. Just follow the route putting matching stops right back to the other end of the line.

When I saw your thread title I thought you were going to mention seeing buses go off route and even do u-turns in the road, which I've seen them do !! I just put that down as a glitch.

You don't.
Use two lines instead, running in opposite directions.

I have my bus lines run in two directions all the time in the same manner as mbutton suggests. Works for me.

None of the buses stop at the stops you placed on your roads? All I can think of is that it's a bug.

Which bus station do you have? The first one you unlock of the larger one where you can place stops in the station itself?

You checked it's on for both the day and night cycle?

OP, he/she means in the Budget tab......also I would have thought the public transport wouldn't be released from the stations if they were turned off?

Thanks for the replies everyone. I was using the first bus station, the one you can't put stops into. I don't know if they did the same thing at night as once I laid out my first route and saw the busses ignoring it I just deleted the route and tried to make it again.

I'm still not clear on making the return route though? Do I just take Route 1 all the way to where I want it to go, then start placing identical stops on the other side of the street until I'm back at the first stop, then complete the route? That would get busses making u-turns, which seems unrealistic to me, though I guess I could have the bus go around a small block then come back down the line in the opposite direction?

And to be clear, when I make the route my busses don't drive it. The station dispatches them, they drive around the block, stop in front of the station and then go back in. So they never even attempt to drive the route.

I've deleted that original city as I was having some other issues related to my poor city planning, so I'm going to start another one. We'll see if I have this same issue with the new city?

But I'd love to hear any ideas on why I was having that problem?

Thanks again.

Keep your busline as a simple loop in one direction and the 2nd line running the same route in reverse (bus stops on the opposite side of the street.)
So just think one loop clockwise, 2nd route anti clockwise.
You can make variations but that's the basics.

Thanks. That's what I assumed you could do. We'll see what happens when this new city gets big enough.

Again, probably not explaining your behaviour, but I had a message pop up n my bus station about not being able to get buses to the routes. I was scratching my head to find out what was causing that and even thought that somehow the bus station had become detached from the road, which it hadn't.

It turned out that I had done some road modifications to an area and had made a road one-way out and not realised I no longer had a way into the area. So basically the buses could not get to the bus route in that area any more !! But, as I say, the bus station was giving me an error message as a clue, which you don't get.

you using a DLC and placed a bus station instead of a bus depot?

pictures?

I have problems with my buslines too. Often i see busses driving at streets, i know i didn't put a line on. Clicking on a bus show me, that they are on ther line, including the %-bar and number of passangers. Though they are normally on their line... I'll check the issue with One-Way-Streets, maybe that caused the Problem.
No idea, why they are going that way...

maybe they are driving to their line from the bus depot?

Yeah I know that. As the OP is a new player to the game, I mentioned that you meant in the budget tab.

I'll put it down to bug in the game. But yes screenshots would be great if it happens again in your new city :)
