Added Bus routes, now Bus traffic is worse than people actually driving their own cars..
I'm battling some very heavy bus traffic, I have a few routes that have like 90 buses just to do the route,

Maybe that tells me I need to add more routes still, but without the high volume of buses for the routes, there would be 500 people at one bus stop.

The bus lane roads don't seem to help much.

If you have 90 buses on a single line it's way too long, convoluted and inefficient. My bus lines have 7-10 buses each by default and they work fine, there are other types of transport for longer distances and dealing with higher demand. Make direct lines that just fall back on themselves, like most of them do in real life.

Here's my thoughts: I think the thing with getting 500 people at one stop is a combination of two things. Firstly, you've placed a stop in a prime pick-up location. Secondly, when you first place a route there can be a massive uptake on people trying to use the route. In other words, there previously wasn't a route and now there is so everyone makes a mad dash to use it. This leads to massive queues which unforunately need lots of buses to clear the backlog. Once the backlog is cleared you wont need so many buses on that route. But clearing a backlog can take a long time.

Sadly, the above is a bit of a drawback of how bus routes aren't available earlier in the game. If they were available earlier then you can put routes in when population is smaller and aviod the initial mad rush when you finally unlock them.

I also agree with kristofburger that it sounds like your routes are too long and, more to the point, too convoluted. I have some long routes, over a tile long, but they don't have 90 buses on them. As much as possible I try to make my routes straight lines, there and back. You can always add a little local loopy route that they can change onto if they want.

My city has a population of between 60-70k people as it fluctuates. The Bust routes are all mostly within the same square, and most routes only have between 5-8 stops.

It would be cool if they had trolleys like in San Fransico. I feel like Trains seem stupid even as a city my size, in real life who would use a train. Sub way stations I understand, and I do use them, but theyre not that short of routes, I kinda have them going from island to island which is kinda a larger distance type routes. Overall I want to get my traffic better, its in the mid 70%s but It was in the low 80%s before I added so many bus routes. So its almost not helping.
