Forcing an empty delivery truck to despawn
hi, is there some way to force an empty delivery truck to despawn once it has made a delivery at a warehouse, grain silo, etc.
i have a lot of empty trucks returning to their facility.
In real life there would be transport companies doing a lot of this work - called 'logistics'
A crop field would not have a dedicated truck assigned to it - which would return empty
thanks,

I avoid using the 'Clear Traffic' option within TM:PE. But if I ever make a change re: traffic management to a busy area and the traffic gets a bit tangled and stuck I seek out vehicles which are 'Returning to Facility' and delete them individually to shuffle the traffic along so eventually they can sort themselves out. I love heavy traffic.

I've often wished for a mod where I can press a button to unspawn all vehicles 'returning to facility'-only for when such situations occur. I guess if such a mod existed it may include a function at least similar to which you describe, but I do not know of any, sadly.

there are methods to prevent "return to facility" traffic, they work by making buildings unable to send or recive trucks

easy example is an export cargo train station that won't send trucks back to their facility.
build it on a one way road that ends at the station. no trucks can leave it, they will all despawn (and thus teleport back home)

it's counterpart the import station is more complicated.
yeah ok, build it on a one way road that starts at the sation, no trucks can drive back, all of them will despawn at delivery and teleport back home.
but it is also unreachable by services and will catch fire eventually
in vanilla you can give it it's own set of services at the start of the one way road.
with mods one would use building spawn points to move the service spawn points to another acessible road.

one would have both an export and an import station instead of a classical one.

wait, thinking about it...
I have not tested the following it might throw errors or might work.
maybe it's enough to remove certain spawn or despawn points with the spawn points mod.

in your example a truck returning from wharehouse to crop field:
we can't restrict the wharehouse, it needs to be able to spwn and despawn trucks.
but we can remove the truck despawn point from the crop field, afaik it doesn't get deliveries the only trucks driving there are those that return to it.

hi Cluck and Coookyman, thanks for your input.
I tried using Building Spawn points to remove the option of despawning tractors returning empty to the crop field but it didn't stop them. There appears to be a default location where they go to despawn if you try to mess about with the spawn/despawn points.
I have the industries DLC - so i have the shipyard which uses metal, plastic, etc and then produces a ship which goes into the water. I used the default locations for oil and ore - so my industries producing Metals and Plastic are some distance from the shipyard.
So in theory full cargo trucks are travelling across my city full of metal and plastic and then returning empty - 50% of truck journeys are empty.
In real life a logistics company would look for a job to pick up a load near to the shipyard and drop it off near to the metal or plastics factory or via a warehouse midway.
thanks,
