Games crashes when loading latest savegame :-(

Dear all,

I have a strange problem with my savegames for two days now. Maybe somebody has an idea or hint how to solve this problem (or to avoid it in the future).

Short description what happens:
* Two days ago I saved the game (pls see download link below)
* When trying to load the game, it loads for quite a long while and shows a blue screen, only the 10% of the display at the bottom is shown (however, the game is frozen and needs to be quit via task manager) (please see download link below)
* The loading screen mod shows from the beginning to the end of the loading sequence „Simulating:TreeManager“ - this message hasn’t appeared before (for such a long time)
* However, when trying to load the save-game which is one day older, everything works fine… until I try to save the game and load it again (same error than described above)… which leaves me a bit puzzled what I need to avoid or should change to be able to build a new city in the future and save intermediate results… ;-)

Well, in the meantime I have tried to unsubscribe to some mods (and assets) or deactived them… without any positiv effect. The odd thing: I am quite sure that I haven’t add any mods between the savegame that crashes and my current attempts to load them again (well, „quite“ sure…).

Many thanks. I have already done this... and the long loading-time is not really a problem, just wanted to describe what changed to the days before... :-(

Your log doesn't really show anything, but what you're seeing sounds like a simulation error. Subscribe to these 2 mods, make sure you enable then and then restart the game.

Before loading your save, go into Options and find the Loading Screen Mod on the list. Then find the Safe Mode options and enable all of them. Try loading your save.

Sounds to me like an asset or mod has been added/ removed since you last played the working save. Try going to savegames in content manager then subscribe to the working games content and press enable on the working save. That should enable everything used in that game as well as disable everything that was not.

Many thanks for your help & replies! Unfortunately, the same error occures... I have installed the mods mentioned and checked that all assets needed are enabled :-(

When I load the savegame which is one day older - everything works fine so far. But if I try to save it again (without changin anything in the meantime) and try to load it again it crashes completely (= freezes in the loading screen at about 10%)... not sure whether this helps... however, I am a little scared to start a new game if this could happen again :-(

Can you post a new log from the attempt with the mods and Safe Mode options? It might not show anything new, but hopefully it'll have some error in there to give some idea of what's wrong.

If you'd like to discuss the pros and cons of mods, I suggest making a new thread for that. It's pretty off topic to start in a thread asking for help, and you'll miss the input of a lot of people here, since the OP is about something completely different. :)

The issue may not be a lack of assets or mods enabled. It might be you have added a mod or asset that is breaking the save. By enabling only the assets/mods for the working savegame as I posted earlier you can eliminate that as a possible problem.

When you save the game are you always getting the same errors or do they differ from one save to another. It is possible there could be bad sectors on your ssd/hdd. Run windows check disk function.

Many thanks for specification. But unfortunately the new savegame still crashes although I have done the steps you recommended.

The error is always the same: game freezes/ does not respond when trying to load the new save (on basis of the last save which was working). Checkdisk could not find errors either...

Unlimited Trees Mod is throwing an error, so let's try and have Steam redownload the files. Unsubscribe the mod, go to the workshop folder ( C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\255710\ ) and delete the folder named 455403039 if it's still there. Then subscribe to the mod again. If Steam doesn't download it and it doesn't show up in game, log out of Steam and restart it.

Then try loading your save.

If it is the unlimited trees mod you could try unsubscibing to the mod as @avanya says but try loading the game without re-subscribing to it. Normaly if you load a game that needs the mod loading it without the mod just removes a whole lot of trees.

Dear @Avany and @Termite, again, many, many thanks for your help. I am impressed by your effort and kindness :-) However, the suggestion did not solved the problem, unfortunately. I guess we should close that chapter and I will start a new, even better city ;-) (and cross fingers re compatability and make some more save games to be on the safe side...). Cheers!
