I know roundabouts are preferred by many. My cities never grow too large (I usually stop around 50,000) so the junction above never gets clogged up.

This is one of the simplest converting to two way street, but if it is handling volume the keeping them separate might be the way to go.
This clip is the connection between the two highways on River Run. The start point, I foolishly connected the two highways then needed to figure out how to deal with the volume.
