Screen Freezes

I played Cities Skylines for hours and I suddenly found there is a new error in the past month, the screen freezes while the background processes are still working, after a few minutes, it crashed.
Had anybody face this before and how to solve it?

It could be a memory error. If you have a pagefile and it is full it will crash out of the blue.

If I have that issue you described I can sometimes save it when I just wait and do nothing.
The moment I push one button it crashes....

But I know my issues I have too many assets :)

What is your RAM and Pagefile?

If you can post your output log (player.log on Mac and Linux) from right after a freeze/crash like that, then we might be able to spot what's happening. This guide explains where to find the log and suggests some places to upload it to, since we can't attach files here on Steam. :)
