What's happening with this game?
I started having problems with the game and getting error messages like just about everyone else. I've gone through and re-done mods. The game worked fine after that.
I've returned to the game to restart my city and the map won't load at all now.
Why do the devs have to mess around with the game now? Of all times to really upset people why do it now during a world wide epidemic?
This shows just how much these people care about their customer base. Every single time they update this game we have restart a new game.
How long do we have to wait before we can restart this game? What is happening with the game?

It's custom content from Workshop that breaks the game, mostly mods that haven't been updated to match the latest version. As for the pandemic situation, devs are actually doing a favour to the players by releasing new content.

Doing us a favour!! Like hell they are! Doing themselves a favour is the truth.

They're capitalising on a terrible situation. Every time they release an update it breaks peoples games. And they are fully aware that the vast majority of players use mods.

I'd say 95% of sold copies are completely vanilla.

Wait for a couple of days, e.g. 2 when the mod and asset incompatibility will be solved. Then it will work fine.

not sure this is your first game with mods, but usually when a new update comes in, mod creators need to update their mods to match the client. that is usually when update arrive disable all mods. create new game until all mods gets updated. and wish all creators still active to update their mods. to save you time -noWorkshop in launch and remove it when mods gets an update

Whether this is your first patch playing with mods or you've tried this before, I suggest checking out this post as it lists the mods that are known to be broken right now.

It's like that for almost every game which has modding support... Yeah, stupid devs not catering for the players and making sure the update works with every single mod.

Ahh....I'd say 100% of the 'sold copies' are vanilla.

I've owned this game for a long time. And you guys are fully aware that this update is going to break people's saved games.

So why do it now?

I disagree. Take a look at the achievement stats. If you're using mods the achievements are locked, unless you're using a mod that allows achievements. Only 40% of players have the "educating a person to level 3" achievement. It's reasonable to assume that happens in the vast majority of games because 1) it's part of the basic game and doesn't require any DLC, so everyone can attain it, and 2) it will happen as soon as you build a university. Which either means that 60% of players have bought the game and never really played it, or at least 60% of players use mods (possibly higher because of the mods that allow achievements - which I'm using).

As a painter who use 100 mods, it's a usual scene where the mods always get break when a new DLC is released. Don't get surprised with this, for us this is common now.

I really don't get why you're complaining. Especially about the fact the developers are trying to make money with this game. That's the whole purpose of developing and selling it. Like with every other product.

I'm sick and tired of people wanting games and/or their DLC for free. You do realize these games don't develop themselves, right? There are a lot of employees doing it, and like you and me they want to get paid for their work. Are you also running into your local shops screaming at the employees "how dare you take money for toilet paper! especially in a crisis like this?!". Probably not. And I'm pretty sure you're not working for free either.

This DLC wasn't developed overnight. It started long before Corona was even an issue.

And if you can't deal with it, don't play it. Nobody is forcing you to do it. :steamfacepalm:

The update has been underway and scheduled for now for some time. I completely understand that you just want to play your game and this update disrupts that - I play heavily modded as well and currently can't play my city - but I imagine you would not be any less frustrated any other time. Building a city is always gonna be way more fun that troubleshooting, but it's one of those things that come with modding the game. :/

To make things more smooth the devs have a beta, where many modders get access to the game early. That's how some mods have already updated and others are ready for the modder to be off work (since it isn't possible to schedule updates for mods). All of this ofc doesn't make it any less frustrating for you, that you can't play your city. But the devs are working with the community to make things as smooth as possible - it just won't ever be trouble-free when a game can be modded as heavily as Cities: Skylines can.

Good grief... aren't you the entitled one? You're angry because an update broke the mods you're using in your savegame... Grow up. Did you want them to consult with you over a convenient time first? I think most players are grateful for the effort the devs put in to maintain and improve their game - or would you rather they just stopped, and let it stagnate?

I have nothing against DLC. As long as it's optional and doesn't break my current game. Is that too complex?

Why, when they are fully aware that it's going to break peoples games, do it now?
