Busy traffic at city entrance
Any way to ease up the traffic as they enter the city, or is it always going to be red? I've tried various roads, not makin much difference.

did you use roundabout template?
grapplehoeker (Bloqueado) 10 DIC 2016 a las 18:56
Yup, just cut off the two top spokes and replace them with two 1 way roads to connect to the highway. The small roundabout is available right from the start for this very reason.

At the start of a new map, that isn't possible without using mods. Limited funds and a population milestone to be reached will prevent that being an option.

Try not to have a single entrance into the city, allow traffic to dispurse away from the city in any direction through many exits. The 81 tiles mod may help.

9 tiles is plenty of space for a large city with multiple entry/exit points.
25 tiles is just about workable.
81 tiles is unworkable for optimal service coverage and so cannot be seriously considered. It's certainly not necessary to provide multiple city entry exit points.

This is all derailing from the OP's simple question which has been answered. He didn't want to know how to develop a city, nor how to create multiple entrances. He just wanted an effective means to connect to the highway. Discuss that further.

I built a roundabout to start with. Then expanded it into the oval as my city grew.

In most cases you don't need over engineered intersections simple roundabouts and slip roads are more than sufficient and very efficient in the majority of situations
