Roundabout or complicated interchange (with screenshots)?

What do you think I should do here?

The two roads in the middle act as collectors coming straight off the highway.
On the right is residential and the left is industrial.

I don't have a big problem now but there are occasional back-ups of traffic where they criss-cross in the middle.

There is a tram line taking residents from A to B in the major areas.

Do you think a simple roundabout will do it or should I turn that road into actual highway and put some off-ramps down ect.

I did origionally not have a problem but the extra road in the dead center connecting the 2 main roads are what caused it, I needed a direct route for trams though.

The one thing I have done right here is leave enough space between the big sections for future proofing road works at least.

I would turn the north/south roads into highway. Make a bridge so the east/west road doesn't intersect the newly converted highway. Then get rid of the elevated road. In the area that leaves I would put a cloverleaf junction and filter the cloverleaf east/west exits into the junctions where the elevated road currently joins.

Also convert that other east/west road into a bridge over the newly converted highway. Probably also add an east/west bridge at the top end of the city. Finally put a cloverleaf at the top end as well.

If you don't want to go full clover then an alternative is the roundabout. You can either make a roundabout right in the middle or raise the highway (no connection to the road) and put the round under ground then connect the two to the round.

You can also try adding another entrance/ exit at the bottom of the hawthorn farm on that left side. Depending on the types of traffic it could at least alleviate that intersection but definitely scrap that raised highway that crosses.

Roundabout always beat lights/ stops but space means they aren't always possible.
