Ubuntu 18.04: CS extremely slow
I am trying to get CS to work on my Ubuntu 18.04 machine. The game launches, I get the menu. But everything so so slow that I can't do anything. I can't even start a new city. The cursus moves slower than a snails pace, it takes forever for the next screen to appear when I press on, for example but not limited to, "New game."

I am running
- a fully updated Ubuntu 18.04
- Intel i5 9600K
- 16GB ram
- nVidea GeForce GT730 (i know, not the newest but on W10 it works great) with proprietary drivers (the metapackage)

Does anyone have an idea how to solve this? At the moment the only reason I have a dualboot with W10 is for CS. I would love to get rid of Windows completely.

On Windows (same machine, different SSD) I have no problems whatsoever.

I am a Linux developer (of the CentOS Linux distribution). I never play Steam games on Linux. It is just not a good user experience IMHO.

The only thing I do on Windows 10 is play games.

Interesting, what made you choose Ubuntu?

Because I have an intel system and couldnt for the life of me get my NIC to work on Debian. No working NIC equals no working internet. Before The Intel I5 I used an AMD system (FX6300) and used Debian.

Back to my question, Any ideas on how to fix this?

@jhughes - I have no issue running steam games on Ubuntu 18.04. Far superior to all my friends who run Windows. No bs overhead.

@bernhardflokstra - how many mods do you have? How many assets? I found that C:S ran pretty slow with 16 GB ram, so I upped it to 32 GB. Because I am an asset ♥♥♥♥♥, I have upped again to 64 GB.

If you don't have it already, get the Loading Screen Mod - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=667342976

It helps reduce ram load.

Also, before you play C:S next time, open System Monitor and see what your resource usage is like. Then, after going into a city, hold down the Alt key and right click the mouse. It will allow you to minimize the game. Then you can check what your ram usage is like.
