Water tool causes flood?
Hi everyone.

I recently tried to form a lake by using the water tool and connected it to canals that run across the city, but it always leads to a flood. I have set the water capacity to a minimum (0.05) and adjusted the water level to way below the surface, in both the lake area and the canals.
However, after a while, the areas that are near the canals always get flooded. I thought its just a matter of time before it goes back to normal, but it really wasn't. The water would start to spread further out despite my flood walls and water pumps.

Any tips on the matter? I suppose I just used the water tool wrongly so theres probably a way to fix this

Water is weird. And the water tool is probably confused by canals.

Flood walls should normally stop it spreading so if it's gone over them then you've been unlucky !! Once you have water on land it really doesn't disperse quickly at all. Given the opportunity it will just ripple across the whole map. I've even managed to flood and destroy a metro station in the past.

Whenever I play with water I try to put in flood walls. But I also try to put in canals near the flood walls just to help soak up any excess water. I think I've even managed to put water spawners inside the canal to help control the water level further.

When you have two water sources converging then they always seem to 'bash together' and cause a big surging wave. Not really sure how to avoid that - maybe put another water spawner where they contact and set the level much lower. I think any water manipulation is likely to lead to unexpected results. Maybe even lower the terrian and fill in later once things settle - though you'll have to gently re-raise the ground level (ie, small area at a time) otherwise you'll just cause a flood elsewhere.

Make sure the area is flat too, it might be the right height in some places but too high at another point...

What do you mean by water tool, is this a mod? I've been wondering how to make lakes in vanilla or at least little streams but they always seem to overflow or dry up.

Its called the extra landscaping tools. It allows you to add water source to form lake or such and adjust the water level
