Highway overpass/bridge customization
I feel like this is either an option in the game that I just can't remember, or a mod which was made very soon after the release of the game. I'm looking for something which allows you to either customize the type of a bridge (for the same road type), or disable the trestles/supports outright for when you are making an overpass. Each time I drag a piece of highway across a lower portion of land (no water) it wants to make what looks like a bridge--the same one each time.

Without mods, the trick to constructing a bridge without suspension towers is simple.
A straight bridge will always produce the suspension towers seen with large roads/highways, the trestle supports with medium roads and the roofing with the gravel road.
But, if you lay a slightly curved road section, even if for a fraction, then no such supporting skins will be used and the road will be flat. So, just put a tiny kink in the bridge ;)

So glad I saw this, I had no idea! Roofing over gravel roads, like a covered bridge? Very interesting. I’m gonna try that!

Sounds like what he wants - I have this mod and whenever I click the roads tool, a little box pops up on the bottom right of the screen where you can select different types of bridges, street lights, trees, etc, for the road you are building.

Here's a view of what I was describing above.

Thanks. I will try this. I assume it plays friendly with the Fine Road tool.

Very good to know. Before you posted the pictures, I thought you meant a vertical 'kink' which would look too unrealistic. Bending as a slight curve would may work; I'll have to see how the connection to the road looks. One would think the devs thought of this. SimCity 4 had options to choose each time you made a bridge. Thank goodness for mods and workarounds.

I've been looking for a way to avoid the suspension bridge. What happens if you then use Move It or something to straighten the bridge? Do the suspension towers and cables pop in?

Yes, as long as the bridge is straight, it will show it's full appearance and even the slightest curvature will turn it off.

Grapplehoeker, no, what I'm asking is, if we create a curved bridge to remove the suspension, then straighten it because we ultimately want it straight, does it remain without suspension, or does the suspension pop in anyway? Sorry, game takes long time to load and I can't test this at the moment. Thanks.

Without having to repeat myself lol...
If the bridge is straight, it will show the suspension.
If the bridge is not straight, it won't.
So, it doesn't matter how you change or revert back to normal, by whatever means... straight is full appearance and curved is not ;)
