Road SIZE & Zoning Density?
I am struggling with this one at the moment. Is there some kind of mind set to follow when zoning between Low, Medium and High Density with Residential houses and Commercial Buildings in Mind?

I understand the road hierarchy well enough, but can’t make sense of whether I should or should not be using local roads with high density buildings?

The high density residential and commercial as well as the office zones will be available after the city population reaches 8,500.

Some wider roads and highways will require 3,000 or 6,000 population too.

I figure out that by placing a really good intersection on the busiest spot significantly increases my chance getting budget surplus and lots of people moving in early on during the game -

I created this intersection myself and it seemed to avoid the traffic jams very well -

I don't use a lot of high density residential or commercial. However, when I do I never seem to struggle with traffic even though they are on 2lane roads. I guess if you pack in your high density stuff then the roads will suffer more. The choice is yours.

Remember the more high density commercial you use the more industry you need to support it and the more traffic it will generate between the two.

Nice Job on the intersection. Thanks for the replies. From what I can see ... most CBDs with packed skyscrapers and the like seem to use mostly avenues in all directions.

I guess I will do the same for the centre of my City and then tapper the roads out.

Yea ... I will be careful to make sure I have good connections re the need for industry. Glad you mentioned that.

I'll work it out ... Thanks for the replies.

I mainly use a combination of small roads and medium road (avenues). Most of my downtown areas are avenues for main thoroughfares, then I use a combination of the small heavy roads and small roads as back streets / laneways etc.

In my suburban areas I will use avenues as the main road and then have regular streets branch off from this. I will still medium/high density on small roads - they don't have to be on heavy roads.

Go to a channel on youtube called Biffa playes indie games
This will guy fixes cities so all you need to know will be there...
If you dont, Most roads will do if you have good and multiple connections in and out of your areas... There are mods that will controll where and what traffic will do. Also Good transport network will also do, unless its a condensed industry zone! Ive put in 500 hours or more and still get frustrated with the industry traffic...
Good luck

The only problem with most of these ‘fix’ series is the people using the wrong type of roads, or going all out with 6 lane one way roads etc - this is rarely ‘fixed’. Probably not helpful for OP - seeing heavy roads used everywhere.

The only thing to learn from these is what not to do.

It's less about zoning density than it is about zoning balancing. Most of your traffic stems from cims not having jobs nearby, nor freight not near commerce/industry.

Here's an old city with only 2-lane roads, 300k population, 9-tiles, and no workshop.
