Use the leveling tool in the landscape toolbar (second from the left). Click with your right mouse button on the area in the map (usually next to the hole) that has terrain the level you want the hole to fill in to. Then left-click on the hole. It should immediately fill to the level of the land around it.

Get this mod,

CTRL Z will undo whatever your last action was.
Alternatively, just fill in the terrain and use the level tool.

This also works if the game "hiccups" and you suddenly find holes in your terrain that you didn't make.

Hey Grapplehoeker - thanks for the heads-up on that Extra Landscaping Tools mod - I think I'll look into that one. :^)

I use some of Bloody Penguins stuff already when playing and it seems to be very reliable.

It's one of my favourite mods. It has all of the functionality of the tools from the Map Editor, including the water tool. The fact that you can add different brush types and shapes means that it is far more versatile than the terrain tool with that silly soil nonsense CO implemeted.
