Space Elevator and Sharing cities (Now in Workshop)
Where did you guys place the space elevator? I put it in a semi-prominent place in the downtown area of one of the new sectors in the city and the traffic is so terrible that i just demolished it. Should i treat it as a transportation hub or tourist attraction and move it to a new sector and surround it with hotels and entertainment?

Also, If i want to share a copy of my city to some of the more experienced players to help me diagnose problems, How do i share the saved file?

Treat it as a transportation hub. So, ring it with a squarabout and be sure not to zone on the ring road itself to allow for a steady flow without deliveries and local traffic clogging it.

In Content Manager/Saves in game, select the save game you wish to share, check the box 'Share' and this will upload it toyour Workshop. from there you can copy the link to it and post where you like. Just be sure before you upload, you choose an easily identifiable name for the save file, as it can be a chore to look for it without that.

Not sure i did it right but here it is. My very first city is now on Workshop for critique and modification. Aiming to learn here so would appreciate any feedback and suggestions.

I subbed it and I'll take a look at it later ;)
I noticed though, when I looked through the Required Items list, that you're still using this,

This mod is obsolete and out of date. Get rid of it and then replace it with the new version.

Okidoki so I took a look. Let me first say, well done! For your first city, it's impressive. It is clear to me that you are an ex SC builder. It shows in the typical tendency to fill all available space lol. You've grasped most of the concepts and avoided most of the errors new players often make, but you still need to perfect them.
I'll go through some of the things you need to pay attention to...

Next time, try to break out from the grid. Use the space by leaving some space to define your city. Less is more ;)
Trade... there seems to be a trade imbalance with your consumer goods and a couple of your factories are claiming to have no customers. You are exporting a huge amount of consumer goods despite having loads of commercial (too much I feel). This is either too much generic industry or poor delivery. I feel it's more of the former than the latter because overall your traffic is fairly clear of congestion.

As for the congestion and traffic management, let's look at your highway connections. You seem to link your highways to your innercity roads with roads and this isn't good. Learn to use on/off ramps and connect them correctly. Use the guides in the Workshop.

You mentioned clogged roundabouts and I can see why. Never zone in or on a roundabout. The purpose of a roundabout is to disperse traffic in a variety of directions and keep it flowing. Therefore you defeat the purpose by placing buildings on the roundabout that not only create traffic but also receive delivery traffic, all of which impedes the flow,

Now, let's look at your health. Not bad but why are there 80 sick Cims? Ground and water pollution is good, so it must be noise... let's see why.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=902008602
Note how high density residential is adjacent to or in the vicinity of high density commercial - a known noise polluter. Be aware of the fact that commercial recieves delivery traffic and so the routes to commercial will create a lot of traffic noise. These routes should not be zoned for residential therefore. Also note the absence of tree lined roads which reduce noise.

Note the locations of the train station and the metro stations within residential zones.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=902008978
Now that we have all of that in mind, lets see the noise pollution.

Ouch!
There's some work for ya ;)
Once again, well done.

Thanks Grapple!!!

I think i can fix some of those problems you pointed out. I would dezone some of the areas, remove some streets, add green stuff (trees, etc.) and seperate the commerical and residential zones more clearly.

Rerouting the trains is going to be a pain in the ass, but i guess i can rezone surrounding areas into commerical instead

Decreasing industrial is not a bad idea, i think i am going to convert some of it to non polluting industry or demolish them all together. I might also clear a corner for industrial and pile all industrial there with ramps to the highway so i have a better connection instead of random one-way streets. I can shrink some of those commerical areas too and take time to do a leisure/tourist zone.

Yeah i guess you can tell i am a SC player. I tried to plug everry gap in the city! probably not the best thing to do but old habits die hard.

Question though. How far are cims willing to travel for something? I know in SimCity their sims wont go too far so if i pull commercial and residential too far apart, both zones die. I have mapped a lot of subways to connect all the areas (notice i have no busses) but i am worried if my zones would thrive if i pull them too far apart.

Again, thanks for looking at my first city and let's see if i can improve on it.

You'd be surprised. Depending on the need/attraction and ease of access/availability of public transport, they can and do travel as far as they need to... citywide.
In fact, a good network of pedestrian pathing is a very efficient Cim mover. They'll happily walk up to a whole tile in most cases. Every Cim on foot is one less on the road and so that's a good thing ;)
But don't take my word for it, experiment for yourself and watch the lil buggers travel the earth to get to wherever they wish.
One day I'll build Kevin Costner's little baseball field amidst the corn on his farm (Field of Dreams) out in the middle of nowhere. If I build it (as the only leisure service building) then they will come ;)

Thanks guys. I have started a new city incorporating your advice. Now i have a giant green belt in the middle of my city and i will try putting some walking paths in there for the cims to walk through the woods. Been subbing to a bunch of diamond instersections but havent found one that can help with the traffic problem coming into the city yet.

Here is the new city. Per grapple's advice there is a massive belt that seperates R from ICO so one side stays quiet. I am going to ad ped paths in the green belt and see if my cims would walk.

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=902428190

The diamond insterchange is not helping with much of the traffic from outside to industrial zone causing backup.

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=902428072

I finally caved and bought a new square closer to the highway and I am going to construct a new interchange and see if trucs would go there to get into my ICO zones.

Built the interchange to move commerical and industry traffic out of the main interchange.
