Ore Industry not building mines
Title. This is a developing story and am keeping my eye on it as we speak. I just built the ore district a bit ago, and a few mines popped up, but they have all been replaced with forge businesses. The Natural Resources overlay is not showing ore anymore in the area either. As I slowly expand the zoned area, all of the business are not raw producers, they are all goods producers importing the raw ore.

Has anyone ran into this or have any feedback?

Or did they simply use up all the ore that quickly?

I am currently playing with no mods for achievements and the vanilla experience, what do you typically do with the ore zones after they are depleted in vanilla? just remove the ore specialization, or let them keep importing everything?

one time, i redeveloped the area into a residential neighborhood but kept the specialization and a couple of ore industry buildings to keep as historical buildings, and renamed the district to commemorate the cities history

I quickly learnt never to bother with ore or coal specialisations, just didn't see the point. I guess if you make your ore zone close to a highway exit it cuts down the traffic demands for any ore processors you want to keep. I've given up on achievements so now use the mods rmjohnson144 mentioned.

Well I've pretty much always had the infinite ore mod, since I first really started playing / knowing what I'm doing at least. So I've never really established ore/oil districts and had them run out of resources, as the mod of course makes the quantity unlimited. But like I said I'm going for the vanilla experience atm with 0 mods. The only reason I got into mods in this game really was because of the poor traffic handling options. Such as Network Extensions Project, Precision Engineering, and Traffic Manager: President Edition among others.

Going forward I probably won't zone Ore (and likely oil either, as I haven't actually gotten to the oil on this map yet) withouth the Infinite Oil And Ore Redux mod as it was gone with 2 day/night cycless: unless I plan to use that area for generic industry anyways. Granted they were not dark blue areas to begin with, I expected them to last longer than that at least.
