How bad is Ubisoft Connect?

I don’t currently own a game with Ubisoft Connect; i haven’t purchased an Ubisoft game in quite sometime. I used to love their games back in the PS2/Original Xbox generation.
Splinter Cell, Sands of Time, XIII etc… they had so much variety. Before everything became AssCred and its many gameplay derivations.
Anyway, how much of a problem is Ubisoft Connect?
I’ve heard horror stories of gameplay disconnects, Steam Deck incompatibility, and the removal of Steam cloud. Not to mention the ever present threat of one day Ubisoft simply turning off the game because as they themselves have said “Gamers need to get comfortable with not owning their games.”

IDK about Steam Deck compatibility, but it is a perfectly fine client. I've played many games on there with zero issues.

It's less obtrusive than Rockstar or CDPR's launcher, and doesn't prompt me for 2FA to launch a game like EA's.

As far as publisher-made launchers go, Ubi Connect is honestly not a bad one.

And from what I've read, the game would run fine on Steam Deck if not for the fact that it tends to crash on AMD hardware. (that's on the game's end though, not Ubi Connect's) Can't verify that though as I don't have a Steam Deck. XD

There's no Steam Cloud on the game. You can manually upload saves to the Ubisoft cloud thing (5 slots, as well as 5 slots locally). It's goofy.

Yeah, you manually pick which save to upload, and which slot to upload to. If you choose an active slot, you get an overwrite confirmation.

Welp, I'm gonna have to replay the original release instead, not worth paying around $20 with discount already applied if I have to go through all this trouble to play the new version, although I will play my disc copy not the original version one I got for free on Ubisoft's platform.

Unless you have their client to launch with Windows it will take several seconds longer to launch the game, it will also check for updates of both the games you have (that you are already patching with Steam) and the client itself, which it will download and apply before the game will launch. Finally it has an annoying achievement popup that covers a good part of your screen whenever you get an achievement, this can be disabled but the function does not work. Additionally if you disable the Ubi overlay it will complain and REALLY RECOMMEND YOU RE-ENABLE IT, if you decline and launch the game the overlay will be back anyway :)

Its a launcher. Just stop paying attention to it and play your game. The more attention you give to it, the worse you're going to feel about the game. Therefore, stop doing that and play the game. Its just a launcher, yes it sucks, but once you start the game its gone.

I absolutely hate ubisoft connect as I fly frequently and the games do not work unless you have an internet connection!
