Why all the negative reviews?

Wanna buy this but the neg reviews made me ask before jumping in. Ive checked a couple and its mostly incels whining about wokeness, is that the "issue" that caused these negative reviews? please confirm so I can purchase it asap.

Well if you checked the ones that are shown to you when visiting the storepage there is only ONE review complaining about it being "woke" because of a message being shown when booting up the game.

Most reviews are about performance issues, gamebreaking bugs and Ubisoft being Ubisoft.
To elaborate on the latter:

Ubisoft Connect is required, it has multiple DRMS attached to it (Denuvo for example), no steam achievements even though the storepage advertises the game with achievements and the fact they removed the original version so you HAVE to buy this one while you still can buy the original one via GOG.

The game itself is great. Seriously, it's a unique, charming experience and I absolutely love it.
But Ubisoft doesn't deserve a single ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ penny nowadays.

There are also problems that prevent most AMD cards from running the game without constant crashing. Ubisoft has acknowledged the issue, but no fix as of yet.

I didn't leave a review because I got it on switch but I got the infamous "lost partner" glitch, 10 hours in and the only option is to start over or give up (which I did). Ubisoft did not even bother fixing a random game-breaking bug that has been known for 20 years, indicative of the care put into this re-release. If I had to leave a review, it would be negative for this reason.

NB : the lost partner glitch is when your partner just pops out of existence during a loading screen and won't ever reappear. Since you need them for most of the game, you're screwed. It happened to me at the end of the slaughterhouse and I struggled way too much to start again

Just get the original on GOG for 1.50$, the whole 'remaster' doesn't seem worth it, has performance issues and you need to use Ubi Connect. Not worth the hassle considering it doesn't look THAT good of a remaster

i dont know about any Wokeness but the game uses 3 DRMs and a online anti cheat Denuvo, Ubisoft DRM, and Steam DRM, and Battle-eye anti cheat. with all that anti tampering many issues mainly performance issues people suspect is due to all the DRMs in-place effect CPU. so my guess is the DRMs are the root cause of the negative reviews and backlash

The one random post on steam where they told people to troubleshoot their PC which made the comment look like it was from a bot? I've yet to see any real acknowledgement of such a massive game breaking bug.

Idk I played through it on steam deck without any tinkering or so. Great game and cool little extras.

So why, where do you begin. no achievements as advertised, ubiconnect requirment drm. and people just disliking ubisoft in general for their lack of steam support. especially when its released on the platform day one. The game itself is great, but ubisoft need to do better

Steam reviews are trash. Don't listen to them. You'd be better off going to IGN.
