Can Rage Form be avoided?

I've gotten to the ShadowAqua fight in Critikill mode and I keep getting offered Rage Form.
The damage is nice, but when the form wears off, there's a moment of vulnerability and then Sora gets defeated.
I think this is because Rage Form forces melee and when I try to make some distance, I don't get far enough away before the next 1 hit kill.

Is there any way to avoid activating Rage Form?

You simply don't push the button to activate Rage Form. There is no option to permanently disable it unless you play with pro codes enabled or never go below 25% HP since that is the point where Rage Form can appear.

The Aqua fight can be hectic but it's completely doable. Take your time, she has several openings and only one of her attacks can't be blocked if I remember correctly. And that one is the one she uses if you stagger her and reach her revenge value, making her counter immediatly.
