Thumbs up for the Sprint Pack
The tracks from the previous game are a blast to play with the superior handling model of Autosport.

Racing open wheel on the Cote D'azur is a blast, and worth the price of admission alone. Worth it for the price, IMO.

I've been away from this game for about a month now. This DLC brought me back in and reminded me how much fun this game is. Probably one of the better Codemasters games I've played in a couple of years.

I agree it's fun to drive the good old Grid 2 tracks again with Autosport's physics and handling model but I have a few minor gripes with this DLC.

It was said to have it's own single player series but I was expecting them to show up within career as new seasons to play. Instead they are now in a separate menu (extra championships) and if you look at the statistics they count as custom cups. This brings in a few problems:
- If you quit the series between races your progress will be lost and you have to start again.
- No team selection, no sponsors.
- You don't get XP towards career progression.
- As in custom cups by default upgrades are not applied on cars, you have to add them one by one before the first event which is tedious.

A few more thoughts in general:
- Race format is time attack from a standing staggered start. You can catch up to the AI driver in front which makes it hard to set a good time (tested on hard difficulty).
- To overcome this you can select a livery for the car and it means you'll race for that team in the series. Selecting Ravenwest will give more clear road as your teammate will be much faster.
- Times set for very hard difficulty are close to impossible. After about a dozen tries on the first Cote d'Azur race I could get only 1:45.9 while Ravenwest driver did constant 1:44.8 but I could be simply slow.
- As for graphics I hardly noticed any difference compared to Grid 2, maybe the particles and sun shafts looked a bit better in California.

What makes me wonder is if these tracks will be available in online playlists? Probably not as it was with G2 but that would mean they could be accessed only through custom events which will lead to segregation of the player base once again and I'll probably barely ever drive these tracks just like with Spa/Bathurst in Grid 2.

If it's indeed the case makes me a bit less excited for the other two upcoming mini-series DLCs.

I echo the comments about team livery's and tuning not being used, but other than that - these tracks are awesome.

I never owned GRID 2, but seeing these tracks in here with Autosport's prettier graphics engine and the insane level of detail and draw distance - I was impressed, a lot (and I have been very critical of this game for the most part).

I know codies wanted GRID to be a track racer simcade of sorts, but it really doesn't hurt to have variety (as the former can/did get boring). The games longetivity could stretch even further if they allowed community add-on's (tracks, cars etc) like P Cars and Assetto do.

I mean, over at the RaceDepartment website, there's 800+ tracks and car mods for Assetto already and that's a very, very early Alpha game. Comunity content would really push GRID ahead and make it live on for years. It's definatly the prettiest racing game out right now too, and that does not hurt... :-)

Can't please them all I guess...

what do you think about there is no race or drift modes for those new tracks? these were available in GRID 2 and i thought they would also suit Autosport...

also CMs say it is 24 new tracks (4 locations and 6 routes for each) when its basicaly 12: 4 locations with 1 big run and 2 sectioned runs, others are simply reversals. i think it would be more convinient if they did not give all of them, including reversed, different names but just called the reversed the same name with "reversed" mark... i hope this explanation is clear enough... :C

anyway, it is good to have them in Autosport as well, this time with sane handling

Yet another bait and switch from Codemasters, yes, they're singleplayer championships but no, they don't count towards your Singleplayer career, nor do they factor for your Singleplayer progression in the disciplines.

In other words, they're nice, but functionally bolted on for show. They're not the expansions that the blog would have us believe.

Race format on these tracks would be pointless as two drivers of equal skills could never overtake each other without ones mistake.

As for drift mode I assume they simply don't suit the format of Autosport of not being lap based. Keep in mind that in playlists you have to do 4 laps on a track in drift.

EDIT:
@Hobbes
Agreed, that's why I expected them to show up as new series within the career and not just as simple custom cups like I said above.

Did you manage to run those over yet? I keep steering into them but they are like *to the batcave!*.

i have just checked you can set a race on these tracks in Custom cup offline, so probaly one can do it in online custom lobby as well, so it appears not to be an issue, my bad

as for drift... as far as i remember there were drift races in Racedriver Grid set on togue roads - you went down the hill first time ahead, second - behind, and it was the same as doing 2 laps on a track only instead of doing a lap you bank the score at the end of the road. it is still considered a 'run' in racetrack drifting, 2, 3 or 1 lap... they may not be to appear in playlists but custom lobbies, why not?

and yeah, for some reason i was expecting these championships to be amongst Career's too, thus diversifying one's means of career progresson
Gonna be honest, the hardest races in any Codemasters games have been the ones with staggered starts/lack of AI vision.

In Dirt, P2P rallies are ridiculous. In F1, qualifying is vicious. In GRID, P2P is insane.

Very Hard is what it is. It's pretty friggin' hard. And this is coming from one of the top players. Only racing game I've ever played that is more difficult is PGR2.
Meszes Aug 27, 2014 @ 5:24pm
Can you do a run please on the very first cup/race to see what time you can get? Ravenwest drivers are doing 1:44.6-8
I'll give it a go, gimme a couple of minutes. I'll post my time later.
