Having trouble with the tall guy boss fight
My mouse just feels too slow for it... When I have to shake him off after he's grabbed me I can't seem to shake him off fast enough because the mouse is so slow, so I'm losing tonnes of health.

Maybe my strategy could be better. I have the fancy handgun, the rifle with scope and the shotgun, and 1 can of health spray left.

Last time I died I offloaded 10 shotgun bullets into this guy and he was still standing. One time I was able to separate his torso from his lower body but not lately. I am shooting him in the spine sometimes and other times in the head. Is either one better than the other? What should I aim at?

Does anyone know if there is any way to fix the mouse in this game? I can't get the game to run at 30fps (it's greyed out in the menu) and I turned down antistropic filtering and shadows. It runs a little faster but it's still really slow though...

You could try turning off mouse acceleration, or maybe increasing your dpi? I don't know if increasing your dpi will help. Whenever i get grabbed i rapidly shake my mouse in place and i get off pretty quickly. Running on either 800 or 1100 dpi, i forget at the moment.

I'll assume "tall guy" is Bitores Mendez, maybe you could try using a sniper rifle? I used red9 and the bolt action myself and took very little damage. I just shot him in the spine and climbed up the ladder and did some dodging and he was dead.

He's very vulnerable to incendiary grenades, you could try that.

Thanks for the advice but I actually managed to kill him with no ammo to spare yesterday... I just kept dodging him despite the incredible lag. Made a video of it and everything. I'll try turning off mouse acceleration in the settings.

The prompt is for shaking the mouse ? I thought it was pressing LMB and RMB at the same time :O

I've never had to press m1+2, i've always just shook my mouse when i got grabbed

Just to be clear, you did try it, in the MAIN MENU at start of the game? Before you load any save or start new game. As I also was wondering why I can't change FPS rate, then I find out I can only change 60fps to 30 at main menu only.

Yeah I tried it with the game running. Have set it to 30fps now and trying it out. Thanks

I'm having the same problem. I was doing fine until I got to him. This is the second big guy - the one that appears if you go right when asked.

I always lose 95% of my health when he grabs me, and he seems to have a huge amount of health, even when I try using flame nades and my upgraded sniper rifle.

My tip is to climb the ladder and go upstairs, then just move away from him - if he's going towards one end of the room on the first floor, you move to the other on the top. Then take shots at him. Then when he comes back your way just run to the opposite end and repeat. Eventually his top half falls off.

Shaking the mouse within a very small area, i.e. keeping the mouse close but shake it fast, seems to get things off you the fastest. Don't make big motions with the mouse, that seems to count as a slow shake.

I also keep getting killed in quick time events. By the time I look down at the keyboard to quickly find the keys, I'm dead.

It feels like players are punished for using they keyboard and mouse on this game. I originally played it on the Gamecube and never had a single issue with the controls.

I'm actually dreading the confrontation with the army guy, which is one giant quick time event (which was annoying enough with a controller!)

Something to look forward to! Can't wait...

Incidentally setting the framerate to 30fps has really improved the lag in the game for me.

Are you doing a 'Lets Play' video recording of RE4, or did you just record the boss fight to help other people?
DefiantPanda Feb 2, 2015 @ 1:10pm
The video I recorded shows one strategy you can possibly use, i.e. climbing the ladder and dodging him, but I have also seen Volfield's strategy on a youtube video.

Here's mine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QO11I3Ee0NA

and here's a video that shows you how to hide behind a vertical beam and avoid him seeing you:

lol @ beam video, that's certainly a lot easier than the way I did it :-O

Don't know if it works on PC version though?
MrBananaGrabber Feb 9, 2015 @ 7:06pm
It probably does, I'm not going back to find out :-O
