Drop in frame rate/slow motion in fullscreen mode

B) Specific Issue
I can play the game with all settings maxed out @ 1600x900 60Hz for a while then I start to get dips in frame rate and the game runs in slow motion. This seems to happen more when there are a lot of particle effects such as smoke, fire, dust or dramatic lighting/shadows or if there is a lot going on in general. If I play the game in windowed mode with a resolution less than 1600x900 the issue seems to go away. As you can see my system exceeds the recommended system requirements for the game so this should not happen. I have tried to run the game at 1920x1080 60Hz on a external HDTV via HDMI, the same issue occurs. I have already set the switchable graphics to the dedicated Nvidia GeForce 650M rather than the integrated Intel HD 4000 chipset. I have even tried overclocking the system using the settings in the BIOS but it didn't help. I have monitored my GPU using GPUz and it appears that RE4 isn't using my GPU to it's maximum potential (only 300MB out of 2000MB appear to be used). All core temperatures for the system seem to be normal so I don't suspect a overheating issue. I suspect a software conflict or configuration issue.

1. I have yet to try the following in order to troubleshoot the issue further:
2. Disable UAC
3. Disable background processes
4. Run Steam in administrator mode
5. Reinstall 1.06 beta patch (I did have it installed previously but it has opted out for some reason without me configuring it) I currently have 1.02 installed although neither appeared to solve my issue.
6. Turn off antivirus
7. Lower resolution in full screen

Any assistance that you can offer will be much appreciated.

This game is badly optimized. Many will disagree because they got it working perfect, but some people do experience slo-mo in this game. If your other games work perfectly fine, then don't worry about it. Unfortunately their is no real fix for this games slo-mo, as I to have tried literally everything on these forums, and I have the recommended requirements.

Really? no way you will run the game at max settings without slowdowns.

Oh no. Your gpu is far from it.

You card is a GT 650M, not a GTX 550

Also, you doesn't appear to own the game. That's it.

As said, your video card is way too low to run this game at 60fps. You better stick to 30fps instead.

Please don't pirate the game.

Try turning off AA completely.

How do you guys know he doesnt own the game if his profile is private? Is there a way to see his games anyhow?
Bruno May 2, 2014 @ 9:42am
There's a mouse icon beside the nickname from everyone who owns the game.

Yep, the GT 650M sucks hard, you better buy a true videocard if you are serious with gaming on PC. Also Steam found a nice way to know if the poster own the product because at first glance is not completely obvious...

I get drops in fps when there are explosions or other particle related effects too. Seems many others have the same problem, must be engine issue.
Auryana May 3, 2014 @ 3:30pm
The particle system causes a bottleneck mainly because it runs on the CPU instead of the GPU unlike most modern games...

Same here. Any particle effect from a certain distance onwards makes my game slow down. Maybe it's just me but it seemed to have gotten worse with the latest patch?
