Plot Hole (Spoilers obviously)
Just want to say I love the game (beat it 4 times on the GC back in the day) and anyone complaining about the controls has never played a proper resident evil game. Having said that, it really is more enjoyable with a controller.

Anyway, Saddler's plan is to infect Ashley and send her back with the parasite. So Leon saves her from the church and then... Saddler stops him. I'm not even going to question why he allowed two of his guys to shoot flaming arrows at Ashley 2 seconds after revealing his plan to Leon, but wouldn't it have been better if Saddler just let Leon and Ashley escape? Seems like his goal would have been accomplished. And hey, he has the president's daughter AND the president's bodyguard and close friend under his control. What do you guys think of that? Am I missing something or is Saddler just an idiot?

Not a plot hole. He took Ashley and ran... what do you do when someone is trying to escape? You try to stop them with what you have.. whatever it takes.

But dosent Leon know he's infected cause of the cabin by the lake scene and when the chief tells him in the house. So he would have to remove it. I dont know though if ti can be cured back at the USA.

Yes, but his plan was to send Ashely back with the parasite. Why not let Leon just save her? They were both already infected.

I have played all Resident Evil games. RE4's controls are the worst of any of them. :) This was complained about in 2005, 2006, 2007, and every year since. They could easiliy have implemented a dual-stick method here (just like 5 and 6), but that would have required effort. The game is fundamentally worse as a result of having a stick dedicated to a useless camera (literally useless, throughout the entire game's duration).

Keep in mind, there's no such thing as "video game logic" in video games... but you are missing things.. a lot of them.

My guess is that he knows they will both be tested for viruses before getting back to the US, and that if they are under his control, it will be easier to get the virus back to the US.

Care to clue me in on what I'm missing then?

I think the bigger wtf in Re4 is:

Why did they infect Leon, then immediately send someone to execute him? And then after he goes to the Chief's house, Leon (who just got done slaughtering a number of the villagers) is spared by Mendez because he's carrying the parasite. Despite Leon not being under complete control yet, Mendez just gives him free reign of the village after basically telling him to be a good boy or face the seeeveeear cohnceequincesssss.

Huh, didn't even consider that. RE has always had pretty ridiculous plots.... Y'know, I'm just going to stop thinking about it and enjoy blowing the heads off of villagers

ok guys, heres the gist:
Saddler knew about how to remove the Los Plagas parasite because of the research done by Louis Sera. he knew this not to remove the parasite, but to prevent removal of it. based off what i know, he had a feeling that Leon would try and resist the parasite, trying to bide time before the parasite took control and get a cure. Saddler needed to distract Leon and Ashley before that happened. if they ended up "accidentally" dying before that, it wasn't a big loss to Saddler. if Saddler did let Ashley and Leon run freely, then he would have possibly been dead a long time ago because Leon wasn't only there to rescue Ashley, he was there to put an end to the Los Illuminados. (at least that was his objective after they tried to kill him.) all i'm saying is, if he had let Leon and Ashley go, his plan would have failed quicker.

I believe the assimilation with las plagas was not complete at time, so he wouldn't have control over Ashley or Leon. Meaning, if they escaped at that time they could get the parasite out when returning to the US. I don't think it is a plot hole.

Now, about the Zealots shooting them with flaming arrows right after Saddler saying he want them alive really doesn't make any sense. lol
