360 controller config
Is there a way to edit the 360 controls? Cause I'm used to pressing Y for inventory (instead of map), and A to shoot (instead of X).

EDIT:

Method 1:

My Xbox360 button mod (GCN Layout)
http://steamcommunity.com/app/254700/discussions/0/558750985845900971/

This not only gives you the exact same button layout as NGC, but also mods the buttons so they appear correctly.

In the next day or so I will upgrade this to support all languages and do a 2nd version that shows PS buttons instead. (for the Playstation controller fans)

Really hope you all enjoy this mod.

Thanks for darksamus for this!

Method 2:

Go to the input.ini located in your Steamapps->common->Resident Evil 4->BIO4 folder and look for a file named input.ini. Open the input.ini file and then Locate the ###XINPUT_CONTROLLER_A section.

Okay, I think this fixes all problems. Everything except for the map is similar to the GC version. This isn't just meant for those of us who have those button inputs muscle memorized, but also if you think the default inputs are wonky. Because they are indeed wonky.

I tested it, but who knows if there are secret problems hiding. Aside from the nuances listed below, everything should have that Gamecube controller feel.

-Button prompts for X and A on the screen are SWAPPED. If it tells you to mash "X" you need to hammer down the "A" button.
-Map is on select, not the Right shoulder button (which would be the "Z" button on GC).
-Shoulder triggers to control Leon in world (knife/aim).
-Shoulder buttons in inventory to switch between screens (key items/inventory/files). This is not a feature from the GC version. Shoulder buttons to also rotate items and control Ashley.
-Map is on the select button. Main menu is on start.

If you want to back out of a menu, you push "X" on the Xbox controller. You push "A" to advance on a menu. Again, this corresponds with the positions from the original GC controller for the same inputs.

Let's call this the v1.00 release of this part of the input functions.

I would love if someone figured this out -- This game is... incredibly stupidly mapped as is, and I would LOVE if someone went into the control config and figured out what we needed to change to get it to map the original Gamecube's configuration. Because X is not shoot. X is yell at Ashley.
You can find the configuration in "SteamLibrary\SteamApps\common\Resident Evil 4\BIO4" as input.ini
Now, I'm looking through it myself, and one thing I am noticing is that it SEEMS as though the configuration considers the game to be more or less mapped identical to the GCN version. Button 11 is "A" in the config, and is also CK (check) and Fire, but as we know those actions are assigned to X in game. I'd put my controller into generic controller mode, but stupidly that locks you with the right-stick-aim option, which is even less desirable.

I just want to aim with the left stick....

Editing the input.ini file on the game's folder does this. on XINPUT CONTROLLER A, change the RUN and FIRE button.

Unfortunately, though, once you do that you can no longer reload. Obviously there's something else that need to be picked, but I don't know what it is!

It's more than just that, you have to change the Ashley button (why it's on a trigger I'll never know), the map, item screen, etc etc. It's all borked for no reason at all. It's a good deal more complicated, but, if what you say is true, that means all I have to change are the button assignments on the actions, not the buttons. I'll work on it.

Yeah, in my case, the main issue is not with run, but with action and fire, but idk which one is the "action", action and fire should be the same, while fire will only work when aiming, and action when not ofc

Maybe it's possible to do it with a 360 controller software, where you can swap buttons and trick the game thinking they're different buttons?

Action is in the ini as "CK", short for "Check". I need to figure out what reload is.
If I get this up fully, I'll go ahead and post the relevant section of the config here.
BabaBlackSheep Feb 27, 2014 @ 10:11pm
The relevant reload option is KEY_C_R = QKEY_GC_B22, I believe. I just don't know what to set it to. Not yet, at least.

Edit: actually I'm not sure if that's the right option. I can't get the results I want

I'm... not sure about that, actually. B22 isn't mentioned anywhere other than there, and it's surrounded by what seems more likely to be directional inputs (Perhaps for a dpad based right stick? loliunno). It would HAVE to be something attached to B9, try changing Key_B?

im using a logitech USB, so i assume my settings will be the ones named just Game Controller right? still trying to make the changes to work ingame...

Yes, you'll be Game Controller. However, you can fully remap the generic controllers in-game. You are, however, stuck with using the right stick to aim.
BabaBlackSheep Feb 27, 2014 @ 10:19pm
This gets me run/reload working just fine, but I can't figure out check now

<edited out because buggy input scheme. Look at OP for working inputs!>

I can't say what I might've broken, but I have this working for run/gun/check/reload. Ashley controls haven't been touched yet. GC Layout:

Im kinda getting there, i mean, now action and fire is on button 2 in my case, you think theres no possible way to send the aiming to the left stick like how it was in GC/PS2 and even the bad pc port?

Nope, unless there's a setting hidden even within the ini that we're looking at now. The best you could do is attach aiming to the left stick as well (not sure if doing in the ini would prevent it from unbinding), but the you'd be looking every which way whenever you walked.
