Choosing weapons
Having played the GC version before and already thinking about my next playthough in this new version, I'm having big thoughts on what weapon loadouts I should have. Starting with the pistols it's Red9 vs Blacktail. The Red9 is very powerful but is slow to reload, is space consuming and requires a stock for better handling which by the way is even more inventory space lost. Meanwhile the Blacktail is very fast to fire and reload, it's compact in size and overall it's a more well rounded gun with a reasonable max power. Biggest downside is it's the most expensive handgun to fully upgrade.

For shotties, this is a tough one for me, sure the Striker can cause the Ditman glitch but say we ignore that unintended glitch, the other shotguns have better range despite being bigger, not holding as much ammo and not doing as much damage. The Riot Gun is better than the Shotgun for it's better handling and fire power and looks more like a shotgun.

Rifles, I'm probably most unsure with these, most would agree that the Semi Auto is much easier to use but the BAR is far more powerful to the point of actually doing more damage than the Broken Butterfly before that guns exclusive. The BAR also takes up less space and costs less to fully upgrade but you have to beware of it's reloading between shots and then having to scope again so you could say it's a high risk, high reward sort of thing. The SAR, very easy to use, never taken off scope after firing, downsides are being more expensive to upgrade, more space taken and since it does 2x less damage than BAR it uses up more ammo.

For Magnums, the Broken Butterfly for obvious reasons.

What about machine guns or assault weapons, like the fast firing TMP and all the weapons like it. Then there are the special kinds like throwing golden eggs, the mine launcher, the infinite rocket launcher, etc.

I might actually try using lesser weapons in a playthrough just for the challenge it gives me, imagine using basic weapons like Leon's Starting Handgun and the free shotgun on professional difficulty. No Chicago Typewriter or Handcannon or anything like that. Oh the challenge!

I nearly beat the whole game with just a handgun and a shotgun for my loadout. I left the rest of my space for things like herbs and grenades.

I wasn't even sure if people actually use the TMP &/or the Mine Thrower. The TMP just eats ammo up and Mine Thrower ammo is rarer than Magnum ammo which isn't great.

True that you could just beat the game with the basic weapons if you wanted, the Starting Handgun gets a 5x Critical Hit when aimmed at the head but it's no good vs Ganados with head protection. The other handgun being the Punisher I didn't mention can pierce through multiple enemies and when maxed can go through 5 enemies at once but it's not very often you get tons of enemies all lined up to get this weapons benefit, also it has the least power of all the handguns. But what is interesting is it can pierce through Ganados holding shields. Starting Shotty has an unlimited range when fully upgraded. I guess in the end of the day every weapon is down to personal preference.

Ima try to use the first handgun throught out the entire game. i love the red9 but i also love the SOUND the first handgun makes. also the tmp. it actually doesnt eat up ammo as long as u use it effeciently.

Yeah, my stategy was literally just
Use handgun on normal enemy heads.
Use shotgun on anything that isn't a normal enemy

i prefer the Red 9

damage per bullet to me is more effective in terms of ammo quantiy and the need to reload less
personally in nearly all RE games I almost never touch the pistols when the shotguns do everything better, I don't consider it a critical issue just use the one you like

Mine thrower is easy to use just buy and it comes with full ammo, then you just sell it, in new game plus you have upgraded the weapons all ready

striker 100 ammo capacity is just too good to pass up, its not a long ranged weapon and not needing to reload mid-fight is perfect for a nose-to-nose weapon, small weapon even before counting the inventory space premium for ammo

TMP okay but Chicago typewriter is just better in every way, not a bad weapon and ammo to sell, sometimes i use it, burn any ammo i have for it then just throw it away it doesn't need upgrading

I always just R.launcher all the bosses, one shot, one kill and you don't need to waste ammo/healing which is more rare than money

15,000 gold to kill el gigante is really a no brainer, much better than half a million on a magnum you save for boss fights

I'll just do the same as I always do. Use the starting handgun and shotgun only.

The TMP can be an amazing weapon, if you know how to use it correctly. With enough upgrades & the stock added to it, you can shoot just ONE bullet at a basic Los Ganados enemies foot & make them enter their stunned stage. Then, just go up to them & press the indicated button (depends on what you play this game on) and it kicks/ knocks them on their butt. Then, finish them off with a couple knife slashes, since the initial kick does a great amount of damage. Also, the TMP holds an amazing amount of ammo even before upgrading, not to mention the insane amount of ammo for it riddled throughout the game. If used effectively, it can double as a pistol.

Yeah, I think your absolutely right after thinking about it, sure the Standard Rifle is more powerful, but it's really horrible to use, you end up being a sitting duck for the enemies to take easy hits at you, plus there's a few parts where you need to help Ashley out quick before being taken away.

So, the Semi Auto Rifle is the clear winner for rifles.

Rifles aren't a critical weapon so the usage is more important, bolt-action is terrible against a regenerator

firepower isn't a key issue you pop heads at the same bullet rate

TMP is an odd case mainly becuase it uses exclusive ammo, certain segments are fine for it because you have set TMP ammo locations, which makes a good ammo to sell, for pistols you pick one but the TMP you either use it or just sell ammo

leg stunning works just fine from the popular Red9 and the shotguns do far more crowd control work with multi-target stopping power, especially the wide shot 100 capacity Striker

TMP plus Stock is 10 inventory squares and fully upgrading it cost 33% of what the better chicago typewriter costs

I'd rather spend the money on better upgraded weapons and its best to be able to afford upgrades when they are available for the pistol and shotgun you like

Yeah, I know what you mean. THe Red9 is my favorite pistol, but I find myself running low on pistol ammo in certain pockets throughout the game, but never TMP. I'm not sure why. I'm an odd ammo conservationist. :P

And yeah, the shotgun is always a must. Just hold enough ammo to blast my way through getting pinned in a corner. It's definitely a life saver.
