(Semi spoilers I guess) How much babysitting in this game?

How much do you have to carry around ashley and how often does she get in the way of combat? Also, can she die easily? Just curious, Never played this RE and wanted to try it but I hate escort missions xD.

You can tell her to 'stay' while you go on ahead and kill hicks with pitchforks. Once the coast is clear, you can go back and tell her to 'come.' That comes in handy in the round room with the knights.

She automatically ducks if you shoot though, so you can't actually kill her accidentally.

It's not as bad as some make it out to be. She does an ok job of staying out of the way.

The hardest part is during the second phase of the game (castle missions) when you're sitting at the edge of your seat having dodged all the enemies and you're standing at the exit only for her to get snatched by an enemy. On the flip side, she makes for a convenient decoy as enemies are drawn to her, making it easy to sneak a shot from the back.

Ah ok thanks, telling her to stay while I clear rooms of enemies makes it much more tolerable.

She follows you around for a good portion of the game, but you are more without her than with her.
I normally don't find she gets in the way of combat much becasue if she is set to "follow" she will stick to your back when you aim. Or you can just leave her in some corner.
But if she happens to run in your line of sight, it's game over, Leon can one hit kill her with everything. But that's very rare since she normally ducks on time. And enemies will try to carry her away more than trying to kill her.

Bottom line is, she can be very annoying and frustrating at times, but it's hardly enough make the game unenjoyable.

She moves as fast as you do and does well at keeping directly behind. More often that not the only time she's going to be yanked away is if enemies close in behind you or if you leave her somewhere you didn't know they could get her.

I actually think that Sheeva in RE5 is far more annoying. It's easy to save Ashley, she doesn't waste your herbs and there are many sections of the game were you can hide her, clean the stage and then go back for her.

At the time this game came out Escort missions were notorious for being bad. This game actually got praise for making it not nearly as awful as we were used to. Ashley actually ducks to let you shoot behind her for example. She hardly ever gets stuck. And you can have her hide in some places while you fight.

There is only really one difficult part where you have to cover her why she activates some switches that is annoying.

yeah I get easily aggravated at escort missions in general but RE 4 pretty much got it right.

I never had any problems.
I found it hard to protect her in some areas of Salazar's castle, but it's not like she gets in your way or anything like that

I don't want to create a new thread just to say this, so I'll just leave this here: I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ love this game.
Played it on several platforms, and had a blast every time. TBH, just talking about this game makes me want to play it again. I hope this time Capcom gets it right on PC, I remember how awful the first port was, you had to download a few mods if you wanted a true RE4 experience
