Resident Evil 4 (2005)

Missing GFX effects from Gamecube/Wii version
Will this have the missing effects which were included in the Gamecube/Wii version of the game? The HD ports of PS3/Xbox360 did not have those effects. Its specifically the slime effect on some of the monsters.

Oh, thank the gods I vet all my purchases with strangers on the Net! ;)

FFS, the "wall of text" is not that at all, but then again I have no phobia to the written word. It sets my mind at ease in that says that the PC version is based on the Xbox 360 version, and in comparisons between that version and the Wii version, the shadows were effectively intact. Needless to say, the bightlit look of the Ps2 version is nowhere to be seen on the 360 so I can see no reason why the PC version would throw all that away.\

The prior PC version was NOT a shoddy port of the Gamecube version. It was more like a PERFECT port of the Ps2 version.

"Feature wise, the new PC version is based on the Xbox 360 version, which in turn is based on Wii/GCN versions.

Many of the texture assets have been redone (not everything, mind you) from the ground up, as you can see in the screenshot gallery on the Steam Store page. I've uploaded a handful of side-by-side comparison shots for good measure just to give everyone an idea.

The game has an option to toggle between original and HD texture pack. HD texture pack is approximately 5GB while the standard pack weighs in at 1.6GB (they're in separate directories). After excluding common redistributables such as DirectX and Visual C++, the game itself comes out to about 11GB.

Similar to the Xbox 360/PS3 version, most cut scenes are rendered real time and in-engine. Some cut scenes, such as those from the Separate Ways content introduced with the PS2 version, were only captured in video. Aside from that, movies such as the opening CGI movie are naturally upscaled from the original 2005 release (again, same with all other versions).

Graphics Option - Game allows you to select whatever resolution your Windows OS supports. That said, the game is optimized for 1920x1080 (16:9) format running at 60fps and has been tested as such, but it seems to work in higher resolutions as well. Anything beyond 1080p has not been formally tested and therefore not 'officially' supported by Capcom, but I've had it run fine on 2560x1600, 2560x1440, and 1920x1200 settings. Your mileage may vary. In-menu, the game will also have anti-aliasing options up to 8X, three shadow quality settings, aforementioned texture quality toggle, full screen on/off toggle, motion blur on/off toggle, and one other 'fun' graphics option that I just won't mention at this time so as not to ruin the surprise. There are other graphics options not surfaced via the in-game menu, but I'm sure many of you tinkerers will find it without problem. Standard disclaimer: any tweaks you make outside of the game menu aren't officially supported by Capcom ;-)"

*sigh*

You did not read what this thread is about, did you?!

This wall of text DOES NOT contain a single word about lightning.
And the subject "REAL TIME shadows" is only mentioned in a very thin way.

GameCube had real time shadows, and true lightning effects.

The question: Does this new HD version has real time shadows an true lightning effects???

Is.
Still.
unanswered!
Well, use your brain for a second. It's based on the 360 version which is based on the Wii version. Whether it is the same technology or not I cannot say, but video comparisons show that neither the 360 nor the Ps3 versions have the 'brightlit' appearance of the Ps2 version. Video comparisons show the same shadow and darkness density in the environment as the Wii. Thus, it's likely safe to say that there IS real time lighting in the game, especially that in the menu you can control the quality of the shadows. The lighting-free Ps2 version would never have needed such a feature. And I can see no reason that the PC version would be based on the Xbox 360 game, only to throw the lighting system away.

REMEMBER: the prior PC version was not a shoddy port of the Gamecube edition; it was a near perfect port of the PS2 version. That's why it sucked.

I think that slime effect is there, if you download trailer with maximum quality from http://www.gamersyde.com/news_resident_evil_4_comes_back_on_pc-14965_en.html
Which other effect? DOF - only in PS2 version, good riddance.

i'm looking at a x360 walkthrough rigut now...i think that it's safe to say that this version will have lights/shadows effect...i've watched the part in which you are in cemetery with ashley and you shoot a truck with explosives barrels...that scene it's pretty much identical to the gamecube version...also there are lightning...now i have olny to check the part in which you are in teh castle and there is lava and fire spitting dragon stones...

but in general, if this pc release it's taken from x360/ps3 and the x360/ps3 are taken from gc/wii...then this pc release has the gc/wii effects

how do all the videos about the gamecube version compare with the x360 one? i mean all this video showing a particular effect, does the hd version has those and if not how much of this are missing?
i've been pretty impressed in seeing the dynamic lights and overall the fire effects in the gamecube...it addss a whole new level to the game
I have not found a detailed comparison xbox360 vs Gamecube.
But on xbox360 there is no DOF (depth of field) or it broken. It is used in many cutscenes.

You have to look walkthroughs/let's play/gameplay xbox360 version.

Is all right.

I COMPARE THE 2 VIDEOS
on the scene when the car crosse the bridge and stops
in the wii version we can see more of the surroundings like brenchs and some fog because it has more aperture on the camera adding more deph of field, in the xbox 360 is like took off the deph of field, like they zoomed to the car, missing the surroundings, and the fog isn`t there, this could be tweak on the art departement for arts desitions, because is not adding to much to the game, but missing fog ? dont know .....good research anyways.. i ll ready preorder the game do this are small details, but it will be nice to have all the effects the game had on wii gc.
