[FIXED] Fatal Error and Crashes every 30mins
I played about an hour, dealing with the game crashing every 30 or so minutes, but now it won't even start up. Keeps telling me "FATAL ERROR: Steam must be running".

I've tried:
  1. Restarting Steam
  2. Restarting PC
  3. Checking Cache
  4. Reinstalling game
  5. Changing compatibility settings
  6. Running as an Admin

System:
  • Windows 10 Home 64x
  • 16GB RAM
  • 3.5GB Nvidia Geforce 970GTX
  • Intel Core i5 4th Gen

Anybody have any thoughts? Is Windows 10 at fault?

UPDATE:

"FATAL ERROR: Steam must be running"
To remove this problem, do NOT run the game in Compatibility Mode or as Admin.

"Crashes every rough 30 minutes"
WINDOWS 8 and 10 fix: Go to the Task Manager and, under the "Services" tab, stop the "TabletInputService".

Other fixes suggested include using "GeDoSaTo" to render the game above 1080p and downscale (didn't work for me, but I'll leave this here in case anyone else had the problem).

I know it's not much help and I haven't seen anything official but I'd say Steam has been a bit wonky for the last couple f days

Well, that gives me some hope. Shame, I just bought the game and I can't play it.

Oh, well, I just got Revelations as well, so I'll play that for the time being.

This game seems to be a ♥♥♥♥♥ to people since windows 8.1. Idk how far that goes but there are lots of complaints about it and capcom has abandoned the community since the release of the game so... yeah.

Try this:

Verify intregity of your game cache
*Library > select RE4 > properties > local files > verify integrity of game cache

Delete ClientRegistry.blob From your steam folder
*Usually Computer > Local Disk (C:) > Program Files > Steam

Didn't work, but thanks for the help!

Good luck finding the solution. As I said, I'm having minor issues lately as well.

anything fixes for this yet?

I downloaded a crack, which let me play the game. Obviously I can't earn achivements, but this isn't the first time Steam gave me this issue (Shadow Warrior also had this issue, fixed by playing the DRM-Free GoG.com version).

Sadly, this game currently doesn't have a DRM-Free version.

Have you tried the GeDoSato fix? Google it or search the forums. It's not that old of a post. There are a few other Win10 fixes for constant crashes too.

So you're telling me that RE4 doesn't work because Windows 8 and 10 is tabletware garbage? Lol I'm sorry XD

Well, to be fair, I'm not sure if those services are on by default. I use a XL Wacom Intuos Tablet on my PC, since I'm an animator, so that may have something do do with it.

But I'm also not disregarding the possibility that Windows 8 and 10 are tabletware either.

I actually thought about what you said, I figure it's probably some tablet interface crap though :P
