EDIT: To add, if we're talking about spinoffs like the Revelations games, their gameplay suffers compared to the mainline titles and they also aren't much scarier. If you really, really like RE4 your best bet is to try RE5 and RE6 without any pretence of horror and see if you can just enjoy the action.
I loved The Revelations, mostly 2 over 1. Could always refund any you try before you reach 2 hours!
I despise RE6 and it'll go down as the worst RE in my opinion.
However, that's just my opinion. I'd recommend watching trailers or even some gameplay and see which you may enjoy most.
All of them play like this. Although none of them go for the same tone as 1R, or even each other.
Do you love the camera and controls? the action set pieces with tons of enemies to kill? the kind of enemies you fight? the weapon shop/upgrading system? the way you manage items, collect treasures, etc.?
Depending on that, you'll have different options. Each RE game does some things differently and would be more or less suitable depending on what features you enjoy or are looking for. Closest to RE4 would be either RE5, Revelations, or Village, for different reasons.
Probably Revelations then. 4, 5 and Revelations have the same camera and very similar controls. 5 is closer in its gunplay and enemies, but it's even less horror-focused than 4. Rev is a bit more spooky and less actiony (except for the side-chapters you play as other characters) and controls like 4 and 5, but you can walk while aiming.
You might want to look into the other stores' versions. It's on both Game Pass and the Win Store I believe. Get the Win Store version if you want all content, the enhanced features and have a better out-of-box experience.
Also, you might want to avoid higher frame rates. At 60fps it's still playable, but 120+ the game will be very buggy and unfair. I am not sure if the frame rate issues were fixed in the re-releases.
The game still has tons of issues from an unstable/laggy feeling frame rate to basic issues like launching with the screen zoomed into one of the corners. Mouse sensitivity is also horrible (for menus), which idk if that was ever fixed for the other versions.
You'll have to at least fix 1-2 things yourself, like setting a couple of console commands to try to improve the performance/stability and you might want to disable the rather ugly AO via the console too, which'll boost performance by quite a lot from what I've heard. I personally never disabled AO/whatever post-processing effect it is, can't quite remember the details. All I know is that there's an effect which hampers performance by quite a bit.
Then, the Steam version's not only missing the re-releases' new features like first person mode and the previously mentioned out-of-box experience issues, but you'll also miss several weapons unless you have a pre-order code lying around (online they're anywhere from 20 to 50+ bucks now). The pre-order bonus gave you a small survival set, which isn't needed at all, but it also gave you a double barrel shotgun (way better than the other shotgun, out of the gate anyway) and 2 special bolt types, both of which are actually very good. The shotgun and the bolts are only obtainable via that pre-order bonus. There's no alternative way of unlocking them.
The Steam version is the worst version for PC, and that sucks. Bethesda never bothered to bring the QoL fixes and new features to Steam. Not Tango, not Bethesda, not M$.
I own the Steam version too and I'll never re-purchase the game on another store, hence I am also stuck with this version and lacking a bunch of features. I own the pre-order bonus, but only because I bought it separately back in the day, for like $2.
If you believe I lied about anything, feel free to check the discussions for TEW, you'll see the same sentiments there. As a matter of fact, there's at least 1-2 posts per week that complain about the things mentioned above, the game launching with the screen zoomed in and such. The re-releases are way better and are mostly free of these issues. Even the EGS version has the bonus content, given you use your Bethesda login (isn't that defunct now?), which'll grant stuff like the first person mode. And the GOG version also, supposedly, has it. Idk if a login is required.
