The FoV in this game is ridiclious
and there is no way to change it without installing some third party stuff like
https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Resident_Evil_4_Ultimate_HD_Edition#Field_of_view_.28FOV.29
am I right? Which one would you suggest?
Unofficial Flawless Widescreen FOV patch by λ
or
Change FOV with Cheat Engine
(based on the version on steam, I guess it's 1.0.6?)

I'm not a fan of any sort of third party installations/cheats. Can you get a vac ban for using it? Since there seem to be games not listed on vac but still vac secure:
https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/0/2284960483091810837/

Kinda disappointed in the game. Am a huge Resi Fan since the first part in the 90's but even the fixed camera angles back then were 10 million times better than seeing leons back on 40% of the screen and a ridiclious 50° FoV. Everything below 90 is unplayable in third/first person.

Thanks guys.

Currently that should be "re4_tweaks1.1.zip". winmm.dll and winmm.ini will be inside that .zip file. Then you should be able to just extract those files to the Bin32 mentioned in the guide. In the future, I'll make that clearer in the instructions.

RE4 is actually, vertically wise, exactly how far and whatnot it would've been on Nintendo Gamecube, so do know that 16:9 is already super wide, but if you must modify the camera, I suggest Razor's Ultimate Trainer. Said trainer is kind of a pain to setup, but you have full control over cameras, your inventory, it has settings to make the maximum stack amount of items 999 and allow for 1-9 weapon switching (which is actually kinda neat and I rarely find myself going into my inventory anymore when using it), cheats, the ability to warp anywhere you want in-game (including Separate Ways AND Mercenaries and Assignment Ada), draw distance stuff, a save file checking disabling toggle (what I mean is there's a system RE4 on Steam uses to make sure you're not downloading a save file off the internet, that disables it), it fixes the Special 2 outfit to be in cutscenes, hard modes and such, it's actually pretty neat. Again, it's a pain to use, but it's worth the effort if you need it. And VAC is never going to happen in singleplayer games for the most part, unless you're playing Pacman or Tetris or something that is super leaderboard heavy, however, RE4's leaderboards have times like 30 minutes on a new game run which isn't physically possible by current means so... you really don't have to worry. lmao And going off of you're "ridiculous 50° FoV" comment, I'd like to mention this game was meant to give you a close by, over the shoulder view. And I can tell you right now, 90 is going to look awful as it'll be kinda stretched and such. The FOV really doesn't need changed, but be my guest if you desire it.

Thank you for this great comment! I'll check it up. I don't really need all the gimmicks because I want to play it s less modified as possible, but the fov was annoying me since the first second. I watched few videos how it looks like with modified fovs and it looks so much better. The numberkeys for weapons also sound nice!

I don't know how 90° looks like in this game since it always is a bit different depending on the game, but I'll check what I like the most.

Thanks again!

No problem. Like I said though, personally, I don't feel the game needs it since the camera is already wider than it was designed to be anyway, which was already fine as it was. lol

Just compare Resi 3 Remake with Resi 4. You can't see what's above you, behind you, next to you etc. and it gets even worse when you aim. The aim itself also feels bad. The Remakes did a great work with the camera positioning and aim mechanics.

I've played a lot of games and Resi 4 itself is awesome, the aim mechanics and camera is destroying it completey.

Edit: I edited the Resi 3 Remake screen with a red rectangle. This is what you would see with the camera angle of Resi 4:

Half of the screen is missing. So annoying and bad. It also doesn't make the game "better" by giving people less visibility so it's more stressfull because you don't have a good overview. That was the case with Resi 2/3 Remake. In Resi 4 it's just: Bad.

Here's the thing, you can turn the camera yourself, which is the intended way to handle that. The game is how it is to still give a layer of "Oh god, what's around that corner!" without giving you a fixed camera that intentionally hides the Licker right around that corner that insta-kills you. And Another thing, in the remakes of 2 and 3, you have all of 360 degrees of directions you can go at any given time, in RE4, you have 6 directions you can go. And besides, most times, this game doesn't have a reason to since enemies follow you directly and rarely flank you unless you aim at them too long, and it's almost always in close quarters.

The FoV is ridiculous. It's one thing to put up with it on consoles because it's important for optimization, but I won't have the same tolerance on my PC. I feel like I'm cross-eyed at 50°. Besides, I've always been a fan of AVGN's take on this kind of stuff: basing the difficulty on broken/purposely neutered controls is cheap and not reasonable. This includes the view.

Rant out of the way, I use Flawless Widescreen to get standard 90° FoV. Don't leave home without it!

I'd recommend using this for dealing with the FOV:

Actually, thank you for posting this because it gives me an open source option to see if I can actually tweak the camera any. Prior to now, I've been using Cheat Engine and a VERY well studied understanding of the camera (to the point I could PROBABLY recreate the system they used in my own code via Unity or something). Now I might be able to create an FPS cam with a DLL rather than an external program. :LeonRE4:

We can argue about it for long, lets just say it's personal preference, you like it, I don't. Thus I would like to change it a bit.

I absolutely agree. Maybe I'll check Flawless Widescreen out aswell. But I tried Brunos thing first:

Thank you for that link. I've read the short guide:
Extract winmm.dll and winmm.ini to "Steam\steamapps\common\Resident Evil 4\Bin32".

Options can be configured inside winmm.ini.
But I can't find the winmm.dll file. Also, what is with the rest of the whole files and folders? Can you make a guide for dummies like me, step by step for the installation etc.?
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Sorry, github can be a little confusing sometimes.

You have to download the latest release from this page: https://github.com/brunibunny/re4_tweaks/releases

Currently that should be "re4_tweaks1.1.zip". winmm.dll and winmm.ini will be inside that .zip file. Then you should be able to just extract those files to the Bin32 mentioned in the guide. In the future, I'll make that clearer in the instructions.

Haha it's not your fault. I'm just a boomer and overwhelmed by it I guess. :)

Thank you btw.!!! I changed it to a FoV addition of 20.0 and it's perfect, exactly as I wanted! You literally saved my playthrough for Resident Evil 4! <3

Fair enough. We all like to change it up some time. :)
