This or Gamecube?
I've heard that the gamecube version of RE4 is the best one. Between that and this steam version, which one wins out?

How come? I think I've seen that the resolution is better, but I've also seen that people have are oft to have problems with it. What makes it better, aside from price and ease of purchase?

Are cutscenes pre-rendered or real time? I heard the old pc release of the game had issues with that, and pauses during QTE's for it.
I was trying to look into it myself, but I'm not sure how to find the info other than posting here. What I did find out was stuff like that, and how the ps2 version looked, and lacked the water in some areas.

This version is superior now because of Re4tweaks and HD textures mod. Only go for GC if you want the authentic/nostalgic experience (although, don't know if you're talking about emu or an actual GC). Re4tweaks offers lots of fixes and optimisations. UHD version is a wonky port but it goes away after getting tweaks to work.

if you can, play the game on original hardware and tv setup for gamecube. Difficult controls and hard to make out visuals make the game all the more immersive. pc version with hd project makes the game more action based rather than horror

I didn't realize that was something to even consider. It makes sense, though. I appreciate that.

Gamecube version lets you do tricks off ramps while on the jetski at the end, so it will always be superior. Also for suplexing Ashley glitch. (but honestly, steam version better, has the seperate ways campaign included and has the Special 2 outfit with the knight armor which is exclusive to the HD rereleases of the game just like this one.)

You can do the jetski moves and the suplexes on the Steam version too with Re4Tweaks. The HD Project really enhances the game as well.

If you get a US copy of re4 for gc its actually a harder game. Enemies drop less ammo and have more hp. This is to make you use the melee system, if you play correctly the 2 versions are basically identical. Also ps2 copies have less enemies and terrible music compression as well as bad framerate with extra modes.

All later versions have these extra modes as well so the ps2 version is by far the worst. Wii version has the best aiming since you can pre aim your shots but the game isn't balanced around that, its like using a mouse for goldeneye.

I'd say GC first for the authentic experience.

Interesting video highlighting the difference between RE4 on the GC and PS2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fq1CdGAf2w4 (may contain spoilers or something)

Don't you mean the HD textures that come with the game? The HD Project is a lot more faithful to the original.

I've played with both the official and unofficial HD textures, and I found the latter to be a lot more faithful. The official ones look too sterile, and the texture quality is jarringly inconsistent. The HD Project also fixes a lot of visual issues, some of which were introduced in subsequent ports.
