re4_tweaks - Fixes and Tweaks for Resident Evil 4
This project is my attempt at fixing some of the "issues" I have with the game.

Features:
  • Increase FOV - Increases the default FOV. Useful to prevent motion sickness in some people.

  • Fix ultrawide aspect ratio - Fixes the incorrect aspect ratio when playing in ultrawide resolutions, preventing the image from being cut off and the HUD appearing off-screen. Only tested in 21:9.

  • Disable V-Sync - Forces V-Sync to be disabled. For some reason the vanilla game doesn't provide a functional way to do this.

  • Fix display mode/black screen issue - Allows the game to use non-60Hz refresh rates in fullscreen, fixing the black screen issue people have when starting it.

  • Restore pickup screen transparency - Restores a transparency effect that is missing from the item pickup screeen.

  • Disable broken "Filter03" - This filter was originally meant to add an extra glow effect on certain fire sources, but it was broken when the game was ported to the Xbox 360, making the entire image have an orange tint overlay applied to it.

  • Fix blurry image - Fixes a problem related to a vertex buffer that caused the image to be slightly blurred, making the image much sharper and clearer.

  • Disable film grain - Disables the film grain overlay that is present in most sections of the game.

  • Enable GC blur - Restores DoF blurring from the GC version, which was removed/unimplemented in later ports.

  • Enable GC scope blur - Restores outer-scope blurring when using a scope, which was removed/unimplemented in later ports.

  • Borderless window - Whether to use a borderless-window when using windowed-mode.

  • 60 FPS fixes - Tries to fix some issues left by the people who created the 60 FPS mode in this port. Currently, it changes the following:
    - Fixes the speed of falling items, making them not fall at double speed. This issue was one of the first issues people noticed (when this port was still being teased in trailers), but Q-LOC never fixed it, even after releasing 6 patches.
    - When running in 60 FPS, some QTEs require extremely fast button presses to work. This gets even worse in Professional difficulty, making it seem almost impossible to survive the minecart and the statue bridge QTEs. This fix makes QTEs that involve rapid button presses much more forgiving.

  • Ashley's fixed camera angles - Unlocks the JP-only classic camera angles during Ashley's segment.

  • Skip intro logos - Whether to skip the beginning Capcom etc intro logos when starting up the game.

  • Enable debug menu - Enables the "tool menu" debug menu, present inside the game but unused, and adds a few custom menu entries ("SAVE GAME", "DOF/BLUR MENU", etc). More info in the .ini file.

  • Change controller sensitivity - For some reason the vanilla game doesn't have an option to change it for controllers, only for the mouse.

  • Mouse turning - Makes the mouse turn the character instead of controlling the camera, similar to Resident Evil 5.

  • Fix sniper zoom - When playing with keyboard and mouse, this fixes an annoying bug which would cause your camera to be off-center after you zoomed in with a sniper rifle.

  • Fix sniper focus - When zooming in and out with the sniper rifle using a mouse, this option makes the "focus" animation look similar to how it looks like with a controller.

  • Fix "Retry/Load" mouse selector - Prevents the game from overriding your selection in the "Retry/Load" screen when moving the mouse before confirming an action. This bug usually causes people to return to the main menu by mistake, when they actually wanted to just restart from the last checkpoint.

  • Flip items in your inventory using the keyboard - Creates key bindings to flip (not just rotate) items when playing with a keyboard and mouse, just like you can do if you play with a controller.
    Default bindings:
    - Flip up: Home
    - Flip down: End
    - Flip left: Insert
    - Flip right: Page Up

  • Rebind keyboard QTE keys - The vanilla game doesn't allow the user to change the main QTE keys, being "X" and "C". Changing them via an .ini file is possible, but the on screen prompts don't change to match the new keys, leading to confusion. This mod changes the default QTE keys to be "A" and "D", both customizable and with proper on screen prompt support.

  • Allow high resolution SFD files - Allocate more memory for SFD movie files, and properly scale its resolution display above 512x336. Not tested beyond 1920x1080.

  • RaiseVertexAlloc - Allocate more memory for some vertex buffers. This prevents a crash that can happen when playing with a high FOV.

  • RaiseInventoryAlloc - Allocate more memory for the inventory screen, preventing crashes with high-poly models inside ss_pzzl.dat.

I'm very thankful for that and for the HD mod, especially the camera mod that makes it so the character rotates directly with the camera. That made this one of the best games I've played lately. That's pretty impressive considering how old it is. The combat feedback is absolutely outstanding, even by today's standards I don't know anything comparable.

At beginning of the game, the spot near the bridge where the car was thrown off the cliff, if I press X(using controller) for "look down" the game freezes, I can still hear audio but there's no audio of the cut-scene, just ambient, and no cut-scene

yes, and in fact the HD project actually installs the Tweaker for you, no need to download it separately.

Before I begin, I would just like to let it be known how amazing of a mod this all is and how much more complete it makes the "Ultimate HD Edition" 2014 port feel, especially when used in collaboration with the HD Project mod. You have mine, and many thanks from players all over the world. It's a wonderful thing that was done here; it's seriously cool of you guys.

Now, you're possibly busy, and I hope everything is well, but if it wouldn't trouble you..? I was wondering if you ever resolved a lesser-known issue involving conflicts with 'Steam's Broadcasting' feature? It had puzzled me for awhile... No one could watch my streams, or seemingly anyone else with this DLL patch installed could stream their game on Steam, but as I researched information on this, I came across a comment by the name "Rodrigo" posted on the 22nd of October, 2022, on the RE4 HD Project's 'Technical issues' page.

The person in question described how the file "dinput8.dll" had been the culprit for why Steam won't allow the broadcast to happen; maybe there's an overlay conflict with Steam's overlay? If you wish to find the comment easier, press [CTRL] + [F] and it'll prompt a search box. Type STEAM BROADCAST while on this page, and it should direct you to one of the only comments mentioning the issue.

Albert, an author of the HD Project, notices this, but had redirected the user to a Github page regarding your mod so you may better manage any potential issues since the file has to do with the re4_tweaks file

I believe there had been one post on said Github page before the comment was made on the RE4 HD Project website. Sometime last year, it was marked as a bug that had not yet been addressed. So...I wanted to see if I could reach you about this, I really love the work gone into this, but this is one small little nitpick I would love to see solved, you know?

In summary, the file in question is 'dinput8.dll' according to the report and personal fiddling around; removing or renaming it allows the broadcast to work again, but at the cost of removing the tweaks and fixes. I did not come across the mod itself at the time when I got the 2015 remaster; the only thing on my mind was the HD Project, and it just so happens to come with the tweaks mod to enhance the experience.

Edit @ 3:15 AM): Upon further testing, I'm starting to think it may be a conflict with the configuration menu, which if true, perhaps a possible fix could just be disabling the menu so Steam broadcasts could happen? The re4_tweaks mod should still run without it, right? You'd just have to make edits to the dinput8.ini file if you'd want to manually adjust things in this possible case-scenario?

Not sure if this would help, but you could try renaming the DLL to winmm.dll or xinput1_3.dll

From the README:

If you use Raz0r's "Ultimate Trainer Companion", you will notice both mods use the same "dinput8" name. In this case, for them to work together, rename re4_tweaks's files to either "winmm" or "xinput1_3".

Not sure if this would help, but you could try renaming the DLL to winmm.dll or xinput1_3.dll

I'll give it a try and update this comment if your suggestion works.

Edit @ 3:49 AM): No dice; you think it's possible the (F1) config menu is creating conflicts with Steam? I did both "xinput1_3.dll" and "winmm.dll". Unfortunately, I was met with the same results. Infinite loading; I could not see my own stream.

I noticed it works tweaks mod removed (dinput8.dll) but becomes detrimental as the HD Project relies on it, especially when checking your inventory.

P.S. I don't know how to properly format things on here, so you may see a lot of error.

Has anyone had the problem running the mod lately?

I installed accordin to the instruction provided on it's gitshub page, during the firls launch it even patched an .exe file, but that's it - nothing else works.

Game gives me a prompt to open a config menu via F1, but that doesn't do anything and non of the changes of the mod itself seem to be working.

Any idea what could I did wrong?
