What to buy, RE4 ou RE5?
What's better to play on PC? And why?

RE4 seems to be considered a better game by most people including my self, but both are fun. I would start with RE4 when it goes on steam sale and you will know if 5 is worth playing afterwards.

Personally I would prefer RE4 over RE5.
RE4 is better in many ways. RE5 is not a bad game, it's just more action oriented rather than survival horror.
If you're just looking for a survival horror -ish (it's a bit altered from the first three RE main series), get the RE4.
If you're just looking for action game, shooting bang bang hook uppercut, get RE5. It's helluva fun game.
If you're a RE fan, you'll definitely get both of them. Now is the best change since it's still having 75% off.

RE5 was a good COOP game but i would never play it solo. RE4 is better on average even so.
If you have a friend RE5 could be more fun but not a certain thing, If not just go with RE4.

If you're eventually gonna play both then do 4 first, imo it's easier to transition from 4s controls into 5s than vice versa. I'd suggest a friend for 5 as well since COOP on that is awesome, but I had fun solo as well.

RE5 aged really badly. It used to be hype because it was was presented as an ultra high definition remake of RE4, but the action archetype in which RE5 belongs has become way too cliché. It could have worked out if RE5 didn't take itself too seriously, but sadly it does take itself way, wayyyy too seriously. RE6, for example, works a lot better because despite the over-the-top action, it remains lighthearted and doesn't take itself seriously.

Over the last year, everytime I'd redownload and launch RE5, I'm 5 seconds in and like "ughhhh why did I launch this", then alt+f4 and uninstall.

But when I redownload RE4 or RE6, I won't stop playing either for a couple of days non-stop before having my fill.

RE4 is my preference. IMO RE5 does only two things better: coop mercenaries and a much expanded and more fun melee attack system.

RE5 has co-op, and I think it's a stronger experience when playing co-op than RE4. However, if you've got nobody to play with, RE4 is the better overall game, despite the unusual controls.

I have played Resident Evil 1,2,3,4,5,6,7, Code Veronica X and Outbreak File 2. As a big fan of this saga i really recommend you to pick up RE4. The game has a great history, playability and even the best extras. You got The Mercenaries (that is great), Assigment Ada and Separate Ways (Ada campaign) with many hours to play. RE5 is more action oriented and is very redundant, when you finish the game you have no more to do and the extras are very boring, i assure you that you will not want to play it again when you finish the game. Don't take online mode into account because it's not a big deal. Good Luck :) !

There should be no question here. RE4 is one of the best games ever made by mankind. And definitely the best part of Resident Evil franchise.

Well, RE4 is usually considered to be the very high water mark for the entire series.
It has the best blend of Action, Survival Horror, and even some light RPG elements thrown in. And it blends them WELL.
RE5 is often considered one of the major low points of the series. Personally, I just didn't like it. No one particular reason. It was just RE4, but slightly worse in a lot of ways. It lost most of the Survival Horror and all of the RPG elements without doubling down on the Action. So it was a slow Action game with all the truly iconic weapons taken out and the rare Jump Scare thrown in.

If you want Resident Evil ACTION, try RE6, or, even better RE Revalations, or even betterer RE Revalations 2. They do it better and add some of the removed Survival Horror and RPG elements back in.
Just to give you some perspective: Revalations 1 was released in 2012. It's multi-player mode is STILL ACTIVE more than 8 years later. Most MMO's don't manage that.

Interestingly enough I actually like 5 a lot with the much better melee system and way better mercenaries. I consider 6 to be the low point in the series where they didn't know what audience they were trying to appeal to so they threw in basically every type of gameplay (horror for Leon, cover shooter for Chris, more stealth for Ada) across the different storylines making the game feel unfocused or diluted at best.

About the only single thing 6 did that I liked was allowing melee attacks whenever you wanted. And while that was nice I must say it felt stupid going all melee on people and then throwing yourself onto your back to recharge energy twice as fast. The counter system was kind of cool when I could actually get it and the skill system wasn't bad but I also don't remember anything that stood out from it.
